Carolina Zaballa was born is Caracas, Venezuela but was raised in La Paz, Bolivia. At the age of 6 years she commenced her artistic carreer by taking art and ballet classes and filming her first national TV commercial. She participated in many ballet performances introducing her to the world of art and theater. In addition, at the age of 9 she won the 3rd Iberoamerican Children’s Painting contest competing against more than 10,000 participants. The prize was awarded in Spain where she was interviewed by the Spanish television and for which, upon her return to Bolivia, she was given the tittle of “National Artistic Talent.â€
Throughout her teens she continued to develop as a dancer performing for several dance companies including being an official dancer for the TV Show “Acento Latino†(Latin Accent). Additionally, at the of 15 she acted in her first short film tittled “No te muevas en el silencio†(Don’t move within the silence) after which she got other acting opportunities such as the TV series “Tres de Nosotras†(Three of Us) and the short film “Paso†(Step). By 17 she realized acting was her passion so she decided to pursue more formal training through a series of workshops led by the leading actors and professors of Bolivian acting. Also, inspired by the possibility to portray so many diverse characters she mayored in Psychology to understand the complexities of human personalities and provide more authentic performances.
In 2000 she was selected from 3000 actors to star in the TV show “La 5ta
Pata†(The 5th Leg) which hit #1 on the ratings in only 3 months. This show marked Carolina’s presence in Bolivian National TV where she also hosted a series of sports and political programs such as “En el nombre del futbol†(In the name of football), “La Garra†(The Garra), and “Mi voz, mi voto†(My voice, my vote).
In 2002 she began to work for the big screen in films such as “Corazon de Jesus†(Jesus’ Heart) and the Bolivian, Peruvian and Spanish co-production “El Atraco†where she had the leading female character role. After such a succesful carreer in Bolivia, Carolina moved to New York in 2003 to further her acting skills at The School for film and TV and the Stella Adler Studio of Acting. Here she met Professor Bill Hopkins who invited Carolina to act for his Directing classses at The School of Visual Arts.
While in NY, she participated in several short films such as “I love my suit†and “Lonelyness in NY†and was selected as a finalist for the Telemundo hispanic program “Pasaporte a la Fama†(Passport to fame). Additionally, in 2004 she was cast as the main character of the Telemundo TV Pilot “El comienzo†(The start).
In 2005 Carolina returned temporarily to Bolivia to shoot another movie called “El Clan†(The Clan). Now she is back in New York where she is working hard to pursue her acting carreer in the United States.
In 2007 She booked 2 National Commercials,besides working as a print model for different companies.
She was cast for the korean/american feature Film "Angel" and she had the option to work in one of the episodes of "The Flight of The Conchords" produced by HBO, when she played the role of "Miss Bolivia". Carolina’s true passion is the ability to conjure laughter and steal hearts from audiences around the world eliminating barriers such as race, age, territories and language. This is Carolina Zaballa, a person who breathes and lives her art every second of her life.
