the Gift band

The band starts in 1991. During the civil war in Yugoslavia, band named “Seven Sisters”, covered the songs from previous period of r’n’r music: The Cure, Love and Rocket, Bauhaus, Nick Cave, David Bowie, Sisters of mercy and more. Those gigs, at the club called “Piping”, were for young people with Seven Sisters an escape to a better place we’ve called “VIRTUAL UK”. That’s how we started. Wearing vamp clothes, speaking foreign language on the streets, having male make-up, it all was a kind of apel by youngsters in those dark years of one Europian state. When the band was named ”The Gift” in 1999. it starts a different road… Few years of club gigs, performing in Novi Sad and Belgrade with cover songs by: Pulp, Suede, David Bowie, Depeche Mode, Radiohead, Placebo, Blur… britt pop. In period of 2001-2005. the Gift had an important role in National Belgrade theatre. The play called: ”Polaroids” (Written by Mark Ravenhill). In that play the band won special prize for “the scene design” (Scene move), by the YUSTAT. It showned full potential of the band, reviling that it’s not only important interpretation and good sound, but a definition of all performance, which has energy and magic of real original artists. That’s a fenomen that we called: ”I’m a colector” (citate from David Bowie’s interview, 1977.) Now The Gift (vocal-Jovan Matic, guitar-Sasa Dzuklevski, keyboards-Nenad Ljubicic, bass-Kosta Madjarevic, drums-Stefan Popovic), having cover gigs in many clubs of Serbia, playing: David Bowie, Pulp, Suede, Joy Division, Iggy Pop, Coldplay, Placebo, Oasis, Nick Cave, Richard Ashcroft, Blur, Radiohead, the Killers, The Cure, Pixies, Muse, New Order, Depeche Mode, Peter Muphy and more. Sometimes the band is performing special gigs dedicated to David Bowie (tribute), the Gifts icon.
