Pepe Haro, guitarist and composer, was born in Madrid, Spain. He received his first guitar lessons from the maestro Alejandro Manzano, who introduced him to the traditional style of flamenco guitar playing (Sabicas, NiÒo Ricardo). Manzano brought him to the Amor de Dios academy to learn to accompany flamenco dance. There Pepe Haro also played in classes with la Tati, Ciro, and Maria Magdalena, among others, which left him with a solid understanding of flamenco compases and rhythms. Next, seeking to develop his playing further, he studied with the master Rafael Morales (National Prize for Guitar) from Granada, acquiring an understanding of the revolutionary new guitar technique that had been created by the great master Paco de LucÌa. In this phase of study, he combined flamenco technique with contemporary harmony (FÈlix Santos) and jazz improvisation (Escuela de M·sica Creativa, ECM).At the young age of 18,†he began his professional career, accompanying artists such as Felipe Campuzano, Beni de C·diz, and soon a long list of groups and solo artists sought his professional know-how. Pepe Haro is known for his versatility and great musical curiosity, but never strays too far from the sound and musicality of the flamenco tradition. He remains faithful to those roots, while breaking new ground with bold, original projects (Gypsy Queen, Los Chunguitos, Los Calis, Vargas Blues Band, Jose Antonio Galicia, Az·car Moreno, Pastora Soler, Formaciones de Jazz, Adolfo Delgado, Digitano, House Flamenco, etc).He has also been a part of several tours with flamenco companies:
1992 — Tablao de Don Quixote — Toronto, Canada.
1994 — Ballet Alhambra, European Tour
1996 — Ballet Andaluz, Falla — JapanOn one of these tours, this time in the USA, Pepe Haro decided to stay and spent three years in California, collaborating with local artists such as Yaelisa,†la Tania, Jesus Montoya, La†MÛnica, and many more. Also, he began to develop his own live show, performing numerous concerts, both solo and accompanied. During this California period, he recorded his first CD, Ponderosa, on which he plays all of the instruments (guitar, bass, percussion, and keyboards). This work was first performed in the Petite Trianon theater in San JosÈ, California. During this time, he also worked with the Flamenco Society of San JosÈ on musical educational projects, including several lectures on flamenco culture and history. In 2001, he returned to Spain and toured Europe as a member of Digitano. The song “El Kiosko,†written by Pepe Haro and produced by Digitano, was a product of this collaboration and a great commercial success on the compilation CafÈ del Mar. Between 2002 and 2003 Pepe Haro played solo concerts around Europe (Budapest flamenco night) and played in Paris at Planet Andaluz. He also founded his quartet and played in numerous venues on the Madrid scene (CafÈ Berlin, Cardamomo). During 2004 and 2005, he went on a world tour with Azucar Moreno. Between the many shows and nights on the road, he composed his second album, Sentires y quereres--a work of artistic maturity, produced by jazz guitarist Israel Sandoval and with the participation of musicians such as Rubem Dantas and Guatama del Campo.Since 2006, he has lived in Jerez de la Frontera, where he splits his time between the traditional—working with local artists (Fernando Soto, Ana Rey, La Rubia)—and the modern—playing live on stage with his group anywhere around the world…
