THE DAYTONA BEACH MOTO/SURF FREERIDE:

The purpose and mission of The "Daytona Beach Moto/Surf Freeriders" is to provide funding to the Jr. Lifeguard Program beyond what they receive from the County and/or State. We would like to provide the program operators w/ the ability to expand and offer their program to more young adults, along w/ the ability to purchase more equipment. We feel this is good for the community and will benefit the young adults as well as the beach community. I feel our community will be safer due to better training and a higher degree of readiness, not to mention more trained individuals.

The Jr. Lifeguard Program was chosen because I am a jet skier and want to give back to the community as well as promote a positive image for jet skiers alike. We as responsible riders are trying improve our image by showing that Jet Skiers do care about the environment they live in. This charity is perfect for what we do.

"Moto/Surf Freeriders" are defined as individuals who ride standup (pole ski) jet skis and smaller one person sitdowns in the ocean, similar to how a surfer would ride the waves along with doing Moto-X inspired tricks like you would see in the X-Games. Our love for the surf and ocean has driven us to give back directly to the people who help protect the beach we use. We feel this is the best way to do our part to keep the beaches safe and secure for future riders and swimmers. On the selfish side, we are also trying to promote Freeriding in general. We feel our sport can compete w/ Surfing, Wakeboarding, and Snowboarding as far as excitement level goes. Hopefully w/ a positive image this will be easier to attain.

a little about the past event:

* we had 500 people show up w/ over 300 skis on the beach

* 30 sponsors from in and out of the industry

* raised almost $20,000.00 for Volusia County Beach Patrol / Volusia County Surf Lifesaving Association

* sold out three hotels on Daytona Beach

* waves were chest high and rollin the whole weekend

* weather was 75F-80F the whole weekend

* no complaints and/or problems at all with any jet skiers

* We had full support of Beach Patrol w/ 3 trained PWC rescue personel on hand
