Steve Hart teases us when he says "I have been playing for a lot longer than I'd care to admit", but this musician truly lives for music sometimes doing as many as three gigs in one day. Hart was born in Pontiac Illinois. Once again he jokes when he says that his prison sentence was transferred when he moved to Joliet. Then attending Wesleyan University, Hart played with the college jazz band and graduated with a bachelors degree in tuba performance. He also plays drums but is best known in the Chicago circle as being a primo bass player. His talents is constantly being sought out by many of the best musicians in Chicago and although he has a preference for jazz, Steve will play many genres and is willing to work on all different types of projects. Hart, spending two years at the Green Mill, having a quartet in rotation at Andy's Jazz Club, both in Chicago, performing regulary at Pheasant Run, and making quite a few appearances at Navy Pier. actually concentrates the majority of his time as bass player for Michael Charles. Charles and Steve have been performing together since 1991. Charles, about Steve's playing says "...they are few that compare and Steve's friendship and loyalty is as valuable as his bass performance..." In February 2008, Steve and Michael Charles and His band will head to Charles' homeland of Australia for their "Full Circle Tour". Should be an exciting year! Steve also hopes to soon be in the recording studio, this time to record some of his own music.
The videos on this site are of Michael Charles and His Band, of course with Steve on bass. Hope you enjoy them and Steve Hart's entire site.

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: Chicagojazz.com
Influences: My influences are pretty wide as I play upright bass, tuba, and bass guitar as well as drums from time to time. For jazz I love Ron Carter's tone and bass lines as well as Niels Henning Orsted Pedersen, Eddie Gomez and Scott LaFaro. Paul Chambers is also a favorite. John Pattittuci and Stanley Clarke are amazing on both string bass and bass guitar, while everyone and their dog has been influenced by Jaco Pastorius on Fender jazz bass. There are of course many others, but this is the A list.
