About Me

Long-Awaited Album Release From Yeow - "This Generation"Homegrown maverick singer/songwriter, Yeow, shoots straight. His songwriting is direct, honest and sometimes pensive, but the overall effect is altogether bold, unreserved and extremely logical. His long-awaited second solo album, "This Generation" will sonically challenge you.Yeow's music career spans 20 years - from his debut album with home-bred, prodigy rock-group Zircon Lounge at the tender age of 18, to his first solo release, "What I Require" almost 10 years later.A heady mix of street pop laced with R&B, "What I Require" garnered extensive airplay in Singapore when it was released in 1994. This solo effort had Yeow undertaking the songwriting, programming and even the music arrangements."The first album was an experiment. I was still finding my ground, pushing the boundaries and trying to prove what I could do and overcome what I couldn't do," says Yeow, 37. "This time, I've kept things simple."This Generation" offers much more, with much less. I've also welcomed great collaborations with fellow musicians and the result is something I hope will touch and inspire listeners. The songs are about life, experience and faith - because we all seek to be loved and understood."Also, I cut out all the clutter of too much instrumentation. The motto for this album is, if its not necessary, leave it out.""This Generation" is an amalgamation of unique songs built with surreal sounds, distinctive grooves and ambient vibes. Breezing steadily through this is Yeow's voice, which has retained its deep distinctive drawl, yet readily transforms into a languid, soul-stirring whisper."This album not only challenges my abilities as a songwriter, but also as a singer. My voice and style has evolved in the last few years," reveals Yeow. The title track of the same name is a slow, thrusting rock anthem, with a heavy groove. "This Generation" is a social commentary on society, stereotypes, and realisation."If you listen to the words, its about restlessness, ambition and lack of willpower to overcome. It tells of a decadent generation. I'm no judge, just the witness.....," says Yeow. The more brooding songs like "Same Old Sky and "Run" question love, embrace solitude and provides ideas about the comforts of honesty. The glacial grooves of "Impossible" talk about turning what is impossible to reality. "Hole In My Heart" address the uncertainties of the future and the feelings of loneliness. The minimalist "Awakening" is an insight into Yeow's creative and personal aspirations.
