Famous, at least this version is a song I wrote for my friends in the band "Ruff as a Cobb". The cut features my lifelong friend Charlie Grubb on vocals, flat top and banjo. The very versatile and talented Dr. Dan Jackson appears on lead guitar, steel and bass. Jim Hager, my rockstar twin, is on drums. Dr. Dan did the recording. This song has taken several turns since it was born in my living room a few months back. The original lyrics included references to Toby Keith, Pat Green, Abel Kane and Cross Canadian Ragweed, along with Tim McGraw. However, when I started pickin' around with Ruff as a Cobb I was inspired to get together with Charlie and sort of adapt the lyrics to fit him. My earliest recollection of Charlie is him pickin' on our deck when I was a kid in Van Buren, MO. He's kind of like a big brother to me or maybe that rouge uncle that makes your mom nervous. This song is dedicated to all the part-time pickers, weekend warriors and hardworking professionals that a lot folks have never heard. Most of the stuff coming out of Nashville is trite, sterile and cookie cutter to the point of nausea. Unfortunately, that's the way Nashville wants it, so tremendous barriers are set in place to impede the progress of anything original.
