Rage Against The Machine (a.k.a. Rage or RATM) is a Grammy Award-winning American rock band from Los Angeles, California formed in 1991, noted for their blend of hip hop, hard rock, punk and funk as well as their explicit revolutionary socialist philosophy and lyrics. The band drew inspiration from early metal instrumentation, as well as rap acts such as Public Enemy and Afrika Bambaataa. The group's music is based primarily on de la Rocha's rhyming styles and powerful stage energy, and Morello's unorthodox guitar techniques.
Throughout their initial 9 year run, they became one of the most popular and influential political bands in music. The band released their fourth studio album Renegades in 2000 and broke up shortly afterwards.
In 2007, Rage Against the Machine reunited at the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival in Indio, California. The band played to the biggest crowd at the festival ever, and has since continued to play multiple live venues around the worldand become one of the most popular bands in the world.
The Nightwatchman is the solo act of Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello. His debut solo album, 'One Man Revolution' was released April 24th by Epic Records. "One Man Revolution" features thirteen songs, with Tom on acoustic guitar and singing lead vocals for the first time ever. All songs were written by Morello. Tom's second record 'The Fabled City', will be released on September 30th, 2008.
One Day As A Lion is a band consisting of Rage Against the Machine frontman Zack de la Rocha and former The Mars Volta drummer Jon Theodore. The band signed with Anti-Records July 1st 2008. The band's name derives from an infamous black and white grafitti photograph taken by Chicano photographer George Rodriguez in 1970 with a caption reading "it's better to live one day as a lion, than a thousand years as a lamb."
One Day As A Lion's first self-titled EP is due out July 22nd.
