Born and Raised in Chicago, Marisol Velez has always had a flair for writing. Growing up near the Lathrop Homes on Leavitt Avenue made her see things worth staining a paper with. In the mean streets of Chi Town, this Puerto Rican girl had rough weather to face, but admits to only clear skies ahead. Attending the University of Illinois at Chicago helps her maintain her book smarts, while coming up in the number one city of homicide helped her preserve her street savvy. Nothing is deadlier than an educated emcee, and this woman’s quick wit, ambition and word-play will knock you out!
Pinqy Ring was always an avid writer who perfected her style with the help of her peers, and music soon became her number one priority. She first shook hands with the mic her Sophomore year, at the age of 15, and by Senior year she became the first female to ever rap at her alma mater Lane Tech, the biggest high school in Illinois, to standing ovations. At the tender age of 18 she moved out on her own, facing the music everyday in her deteriorating communities as she traveled from bad neighborhood to worse. Even after a wreck of a car accident that left her in a coma, she remains alive and breathing the air of Hip Hop dreams and aspirations. As she tries to place her past where it belongs, she has taken the mind set of a business woman, while never forgetting her roots. In a male dominated industry, she has proven in pink pumps that she can out run the boys in their own race.
An all-around goal oriented performer, Pinqy is majoring in English Education at the University of Illinois in Chicago, and also holds a prideful position as a radio personality on UIC Radio, conducting their first Latin-oriented broadcast, “Blue Line Radio”. Indubitably, Pinqy Ring also puts on an impeccable show. Performing all over the Midwest and opening for artists such as Cuban Link, Pinqy prides herself in being a crowd-pleasing performer; No hype man, no gimmicks, no nonsense. She isn’t a made man, but she definitely made herself into a woman of musical taste and class.
