About Me

He picked up the guitar relatively late, at the age of 16, fascinated with the rock music. He very quickly discovered the old jazz masters and since then his unequalled masters of the jazz guitar are Joe Pass and Wes Montgomery. He also admires and takes inspiration from such players as Scofield, Hall, Frisel, Zoller, Ducret, Bailey, Muthspiel and Van Ruller. His skills were noticed as he performed twice in the finals of Master Competition of Jazz Guitar “Guitar City” (1998, 1999). Adam considers music to be a very intimate art, so the next step in his career was creating his own bands, developing his own musical ideas.Adam’s longest existing musical project is TIME OUT trio (from 2001). Such musicians as Edmund Wieczorek, Dariusz Targosz, Rafal Mazur, Wieslaw Jamiol, Tomek Kupiec participated in the project since then. Current members of TIME OUT are: Andrzej Popiel on drums and Grzegorz Pietak on double bass. Adam also runs Adam Mika Quartet with Dominik Wania, Pawel Kaczmarczyk and Adam Niedzielin on piano. Adam Mika Electric Quartet is an electric group with Seb Bernatowicz on keyboards. Adam very often chooses particular musicians ad hoc, according to a current mood and the idea for the group’s sound. Besides harmony and phrasing, Adam puts the strongest emphasis on the sound. He still searches for THIS one and develops it constantly. He is fascinated by old instruments, amplifiers and special effects which, as he believes, have their own souls. Adam uses guitars such as Vintage Ibanez 2616 (1974), Ibanez Artist AS80 (1983), Framus Custom Diablo. Amplifires : Fender Vibrolux (1974), Music Man HD130 Reverb (1974 ), Digitech 2120, 2x12 Eminence Custom Cabinet by Robert Wydmanski. Though for many years devoted to jazz standards, he has lately started including his own compositions in the band’s repertoire. His projects usually have strong, classical jazz sound which one could name as “elegant conservatism”. However, he did not shy away from experimenting and improvising in some projects. He turned to minimalism, free improvisation and sonoristic effects such as whispers and vocals while recording his album Taka Historia. He has cooperated with Keir Neuringer (USA), Gilat Roth (Israel) and Rafal Mazur (Poland) on what is broadly defined as improvisational music. His latest release is Adam Mika Quartet Live – Without Consultation recorded in Piec ART club in Krakow with the participation of Adam Niedzielin, Marek Olma and Grzegorz Pietak.Adam has worked with Pawel Kaczmarczyk, Dominik Wania, Wojtek Groborz, Sebastian Bernatowicz, Tomek Kupiec, Grzegorz Pietak, Miroslaw Sitkowski, Mark Olma, Paulina Kujawska, Adam Niedzielin, Tomasz Grzegorski, Arek Skolik, Krzysztof Pacan, Sebastian Frankiewicz, Marcin Slusarczyk, Grzegorz Mikula, Pawel Rozkrut, Jaroslaw Spalek, Rafal Mazur, Ryszard Paklka, Michal Jurkiewicz, Leszek Szczerba and many others. He has participated in the most important Polish jazz festivals, namely Jazz nad Odra, Jazz Juniors, Krakowskie Zaduszki Jazzowe, Rawa Blues czy Poznan Jazz Fair.As he says, he is equally inspired by music itself as well as everyday life, his son, partner and those who cross his path.I edited my profile with Thomas Myspace Editor V4.4 (www.strikefile.com/myspace)
