Mpireles was established in 2000 by twin brothers Addae & Ade Cox. The twins, Trinidad & Tobago born by way of Brooklyn’s Flatbush section, formed the idea for Mpireles based on the struggles their family experienced early on in America. Turned off by the lack of opportunities and capitalist culture, where the displacement of the masses promotes but only a few, the brothers set their sights on empowerment. “In Brooklyn, the strongest resource is also the most disenfranchised and least utilized—the peopleâ€, says co-founder Ade Cox. “Society today is set up as an invisible caste system where you are subjugated to a role you must accept. By no means are we about that.â€Mpireles, a derivative of empire and empirical, promotes the objective of materializing individual goals by mass mobilization. For this reason the brothers launched “Representâ€, a campaign detailing various sections of Brooklyn. The immediate success of the campaign was tremendous, as men’s & women’s wear shirts sold out in only three days, further cementing the commitment of Mpireles to principles of self-sufficiency, innovation, aspiration and achievement. This model has proved successful, establishing a solid, yet rapidly growing consumer base. While based in New York, expansion is clearly a future objective. As co-founder Addae Cox puts it, “Everything works to plan. Mpireles is a lifestyle brand. Our sun rises in Brooklyn, but it sets with the people—wherever they might be.â€In Aspiration & Achievement
