About Me

“…Getting a chance to sit at a piano was worth any amount of knocks and trouble. She would arrange bunches of notes together until the sound came that she wanted. It was easier than she had thought. After the first two or three hours she figured out some sets of chords in the bass that would fit in with the main tune her right hand was playing. She could pick out almost any piece now. And she made up new music too. That was better than just copying tunes. When her hands hunted out these beautiful new sounds it was the best feeling she had ever known.” -Carson McCullers, The Heart is a Lonely Hunter

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: purevolume.com/sarahouser
Band Members: ADD STRING BEAN LOVE ON MYSPACE!!
Sara Houser-crazy 88s and the microphone Dhyana Berry-groove armada Nick D'Agostino-funky col' medina
Influences: A brief history of my life's listenings: My mom used to put James Taylor, Joni Mitchell, David Wilcox, and Patty Griffin on everytime we got in the car. Then when my dad and I had the house to ourselves, he'd crank classic rock like the Stones, Creme, Jimi Hendrix, ZZ top, Fleetwood Mac, etc. My parents took me to a jazz festival every year for the first ten years of my life. Piano lessons made me fall in love with Brahms, Debussey, Beethoven, and the Rach. In high school I got into standard jazz like Duke, Monk, Ella, Sarah, and Billie. Jazz band taught me to play funk. Berklee has magnified my appreciation for all my influences. Being surrounded by so many creative people constantly is extremely inspiring as well. Other than that Tori Amos, Fiona Apple, Stevie Wonder, Elton John...pretty much any songwriter that has a knack for piano driven songs will always be an influence to me. Oh and this would not be complete without JEFF BUCKLEY...my soulmate. You might not hear his influence in my music but it's there...oh yes, it's there my friends.
Sounds Like: A girl playing piano and singing at the same time. Add in a tight groove and you have the makings of String Bean Love.
