THE STORY SO FAR......The path to the 2007 EP 'MESSIAH COMPLEX' has been an exciting, frustrating, testing, difficult, long journey that has put founding members Mark Sagar, Jason Shuttleworth and Scott Knowles and now drummer James Henderson, through many situations and scenarios that would surely spell the end for most upcoming metal bands. But, call it fate, call it determination, call it downright stupidity, I.C.O.N have kept growing and pushing the band they formed with a drum machine back in January 1999 and have arrived at the strongest most attitude driven piece of hard rock and metal they have released so far.Its very easy to pass I.C.O.N off as just another small town noisy metal act, but dig deeper and you will find a history that more than earns them the right to be a huge force to be reckoned with in the not too distant future.Formed in Burnley just before the new millennium, Mark, Jason and Scott had all but given up on the idea of being in yet another Burnley band but their common shared interest of bands and music soon drew them to a rehearsal room together. A chemistry was immediate, but no suitable drummers could be found anywhere at the time and according to Mark were either pissed, useless, or wanted to be famous without any bleedin effort. Initially suggested as a joke, a drum machine was used to keep time and keep the progress of the band going until a real drummer could fill the stool and put up with the three of them. After a first local pub gig, I.C.O.N were suddenly inundated with offers of local gigs. Just a few shows later, they were playing huge biker rallies, supporting rock bands around the region and found themselves third billing at an annual outdoor festival in East Lancashire. The event drew over 11,000 people to the local park and established I.C.O.N as a strong, original upcoming heavy rock band. The profile of the group rose dramatically and set the standard and work ethic that I.C.O.N continues to follow.Autumn 2002 saw the release of their first EP "ICONROCK", which had a promising review in 'Metal Hammer' magazine, plus a number of excellent reviews from online fanzines, websites and press.2003 saw the band embark on their first full UK tour in support of their EP, winning over countless new fans across Britain, and establishing themselves as one of the UK's most upcoming, exciting and most talked about unsigned metal bands in the rock underground.2004 was the band's most accomplished, busy year so far. The release of their EP 'The Warning' led to a signing with 'Kaleidoscope Promotions' and world-wide exposure on the Kaleidoscope compilation 'The best unsigned bands.... ever'. The ensuing UK tour saw more new venues, more dates and more people flocking to see the band. 'The Warning' EP and I.C.O.N live performances had many positive reviews in all areas of the media including 'Powerplay' magazine, radio and countless music websites. The deal with Kaleidoscope also allowed mass industry feedback from major labels and management, all with huge positive responses and interest. All of this was accomplished with the trios infectious enthusiasm for the band and the drum machine. Proof that hard work and a belief in yourself can get results.2004 saw the recruitment of the first official live drummer in I.C.O.N history, who stayed with the band for just 8 months, but it showed how powerful the material would be with a live skinsman, giving dimension and character to the existing sound.Shortly after his departure, in February 2005, and five years after the live debut with a drum machine, I.C.O.N were proud to announce the arrival of James Henderson to the team, an amazing powerhouse of a drummer who has finally completed the circle and has become the missing piece of the jigsaw, bringing with him his powerful, potent and unique skills behind the kit, as well as a wicked sense of humour. The ensuing UK tour was the most successful and busiest to date and firmly pushed the message home that the band was here to stay. The release of 2006's 'CONTROL' E.P marked a huge step forward for the band in terms of strength of material and also marked the first recordings with James Henderson. All three of the songs were written together by all four members of the band and when released, it had the most positive media reviews so far for the band and sold more than any other previous I.C.O.N CD. 'Prizefighter', taken from the EP, made it onto the cover CD of Powerplay magazine in October 2006.2006 was also spent on the road building an I.C.O.N family across the UK and at the end of the year writing even stronger, more intricate, powerful material for recording and releasing in April 2007 as the 'MESSIAH COMPLEX' E.P. The bands most accomplished material to date.I.C.O.N are roaring through 2007 in the only way that they know how; with attitude, anger and their brand of hard-nosed fist pounding metal anthems, getting the I.C.O.N message out there as far and as wide as possible, pushing ever harder.Sign up to the newsletter, get on board, crank up your favourite I.C.O.N CD and kick ass!THE STORY CONTINUES.....
