In 2006, Palladino was discovered by producer Tim Gilles at Big Blue Meanie Studios in Jersey City, with all-girl prog-metal band Calentura. They spent a year at Big Blue, with a click track in their ears and Gilles frequently reminding them how horrible they sounded. The pressure was on, and the girls went from garage band to studio-trained professionals within a year. Gilles, a drummer himself, spent months training Palladino one-on-one. She was taught sophisticated technique and the true art of limb independence and ambidexterity. While playing Warped Tour’s Shiragirl Stage, Palladino was introduced to Shira, front-woman of the girl-punk band SHIRAGIRL, and leader of the Stage. Raine collaborated with Shira in 2007 and produced an all new SHIRAGIRL, incorporating everything she learned at Big Blue.
Palladino recently finished producing SHIRAGIRL’s second full-length album with Joey Z (Life of Agony) at Method of Groove Studio in Brooklyn. SHIRAGIRL’s new direction abandons electronic beats for Palladino’s fierce drumming. Not only is Raine good enough to compete with the guys, she’s impressive enough to outperform them. Raine plays with a passion that is evident to those who watch her. She murders the skins with power, intensity and perfect timing. One can observe the skills of her drumming through recordings, but only those who witness her live performance are those who are truly blown away.
This summer, as part of the Shiragirl Stage on Warped Tour ‘08, Raine will be playing on a custom kit by Dark Horse Percussion and using her personal favorite Vic Firth sticks. Catch a live performance at a city near you!
