About Me

Michele Bagaglio is a pure turn of the century phenomenon. He was born in a small village in northern Italy (near Lago Maggiore), where the Bagaglio family owned a name as technicians and craftsmen. The tradition was passed through to grandpa Luigi and uncle Gianni, who had their metal carpentry workshop right beside Michele's bedroom. This sonorous imprinting secured in him a deep fascination for tymbric listening.
Alongside these influences, he was made to follow piano lessons since age 5. He started playing electric guitar at age 14 and bought "Axis: Bold As Love" by Jimi Hendrix. At 18 he started attending Composition classes at the conservatory in Varese (Italy).
Michele decided to move to Holland to pursue the study of contemporary musical composition and electronic music techniques. He signed up for Composition in 2001, and for Sonology in 2002. He graduated respectively in 2005 and 2006.
Among his most important projects: a collaboration with Israeli artist Yael Davids ("Hand on Mouth" installation, 2005); a contemporary music-pedagogical collective improvisation workshop in collaboration with Nederlands Blazers Ensemble ("Het Half Uur", 2006); a choreography/music production realized with choreographer/dancer Jacopo Jenna ("Amigdala", 2006); another two music pieces for choreographies of DanceWorks' Lorand Zachar ("Transit", 2007 - "Unreachable Knowledge", 2008) and Daniela Neugebauer ("Meditation", 2007).
Michele is currently focusing on the production of solo electronic music in an attempt to combine his experimental/noisy background with his experiences in tonal music and the phenomenon of breakcore.
Aside to his pure electronic experiments, Michele is working on his reputation as "honorary jazzman" on live electronics. In 2007 he released a demo with his electronic free jazz experiment "Mondosei", the brainchild of his collaborations with Luc Houtkamp (tenor sax), Emanuel Donadelli (percussion/tabla), Matteo Carrus (synthesizers).
During the spring of 2008, Michele has accomplished a series of very successful concerts with virtuoso guitarist Onur Ataman's electrified hard-bop ensemble feat. Dick de Graaf (sax), where he performed as live electronics musician and doubled as all-round technical guru.
Michele and Onur Ataman recently performed at the Istanbul Jazz Festival as "Ataman-Vloeimans Experience" with Eric Vloeimans (trumpet), Pascal Vermeer (drums), Jeroen van Vliet (piano/synth), Guus Bakker (bass).
Alongside his career as performer, Michele has a busy schedule as music teacher in The Hague, Holland.
