About Me

So, the story goes...
In 1993, three 16/17 year olds formed a band under the name "The Moniker of Fur". Legend has it that the first demo they recorded was sent to Kellie Lloyd from those Brisbane indie beasts, Screamfeeder. Kellie loved the tape enough to invite the band to play at her birthday party, then forwarded the tape to the people at Fellaheen Records, a record company in Sydney. And thus began the adventure for the Gold Coast trio.
It was after signing to Fellaheen that the band recorded and released their first single, on 7" purple translucent vinyl no less, under the new band name of Fur:
Fit It/Chocolate Sea
Following this, Fur recorded two EP's in rapid succession with Fellaheen, those being 1994's:
Find What You Like & Let It Kill You
...and then 1995's:
Losin' Your Marbles
Fur were getting pretty popular at this stage, deservedly so of course. Highlights included the 1995 Big Day Out tour as well as touring with Silverchair, during which the band auctioned off their backstage passes after their support set to get the money to buy a bottle of bourbon, and allegedly were banned from ever touring with the band again as a result. Allegedly...
This period also saw Fur tour repeatedly along the East Coast of Australia, as well as the rest of the country with more established (and respectable, ha) Australian bands. However most impressively the band also joined forces with Bikini Kill and Fugazi on their respective Australian tours. Fuck!
Then came 1997, the year that will forever be known for two things in the annals of rock history, those being Michael Hutchence's suicide, and the release of Fur's one and only full length album:
The Betty Shakes
The album increased the band's fan base even further and had three singles taken from it:
High Side
Neon Pressure
Blondi
With 1998 came a final release for Fur, a 3 track EP/single whose title track seemed to be a permanent fixture on the radio for a few months:
Jimmy Rogers
This was followed by another run around the country as part of the 1999 Big Day Out tour. Fur aren't around anymore, and of course not every band has to have a myspace. Even so, even though, here is Fur...
