Promoting world peace through cultural exchange

About Me

Welcome to Learning And Achievement Foundation! International student exchange is a wonderful life-changing opportunity, not just for students but for host families as well. It's a way of learning and living that brings together two cultures in the context of a family unit. The friendship and understanding lasts a lifetime. We invite students, host families, and international partners to join us and become a part of this unforgettable experience. Whoever you are, we have a place for you as part of this chance of a lifetime. Join us as we help young people cross borders, promote international understanding, and instill academic and social excellence in themselves and in others for our rapidly changing multicultural world.

I'd like to meet:

American Host Families to sponsor Foreign Exchange Students:

How do you start? Here's how you can take the next step towards the experience of a lifetime. Talk it over with your entire family. Since a year with a new family member is a big step and affects everyone, discuss it with everyone at home. See how everyone feels about the idea, and find out what everyone's expectations are. Since it's a family decision the whole family should have their say.

Fill out the brief application online at www.laafi.org. We will then send you more information about the program, and a more detailed application. To ensure that we have the best families and the best matches between them and students, this application provides a good deal of information about your lifestyle and preferences.

After we have received your complete application, an LAAF representative will make an appointment to meet your entire family. There you can discuss any questions about the program and meet a contact with the organization. You can also see some student profiles, and get to know some of the students who are available.

When you have been accepted as a LAAF host family a student will be placed with you. This will be based upon your lifestyle and preferences, and those of the student. We will give you his or her address, telephone number, and email so if you want you can get to know your new family member before arrival.

Welcome your new student to the US! Before you know it you'll be at the airport waiting to greet your new family member. And then you begin a year of growth, learning, and adventure!

Area Coordinators to recruit host families:

Individuals who are highly motivated and friendly are good candidates. The individual must be interested and open to other cultures. An Area Coordinator will be organized, have a sense of timeliness and possess the ability to follow their intuition. He or she must have strong problem-solving skills. This is a part-time position, with the option of eventually becoming a full-time managerial position. This position is perfect for stay-at-home mothers or individuals with full-time jobs that are looking to earn extra income. Training will be provided, there is no experience necessary.

The Area Coordinator will be expected to find volunteer host families for foreign exchange students, using the available and provided resources. The Area Coordinator must gain written approval from the local schools before placing students. He or she will be responsible for interviewing the families, placing the students with most qualified families and conducting a brief orientation for the families. The Area Coordinator will meet briefly, with each student for counsel and complete a short, written report on the students’ progress, once monthly (for a ten month academic period). The Area Coordinator will work from home and at his or her own convenience.

This is a part-time position with a commission-based salary. There is no quota that must be met by the Area Coordinator. The Area Coordinator may work as much or as little as he or she wants to, according to his or her availability. This is not a sales position --it is a chance to help others by recruiting volunteers for cultural exchange. The Area Coordinator must be able to work independently, with very little supervision.
