Humor is our defense against the universe. -M.B.

About Me

I would describe myself as a typical Aquarian (Friendly yet Detached), oldest child (Organized, Control Freak) social worker (Humanitarian and Progressive). I'm an energetic, open minded, sarcastic, somewhat O.C.D., straightforward, outgoing individual with a twisted sense of humor. My dad raised me on Mel Brooks if that tells you anything. =0) I've never met a stranger. And I love the whole process of getting to meet someone new. I really enjoy going to movies and concerts. Did I mention I am a movie nerd? LOL And for the Jung fans out there, I am an ESTJ. =0) "Cherish forever what makes you unique, 'cuz you're really a yawn if it goes." -Bette Midler

Music:

Since I love music, this will be a nice, long, detailed answer. =0) First off, I love singer/songwriters. I'm a sucker for an artist with a piano like Marc Cohn or something with harmony like SHeDAISY. I have random tastes like Foxy Brown, George Winston, Rammstein, the Rent Soundtrack, the Spice Girls(Yeah I admit to it, but of course no one else ever does), Prodigy, Sublime, the O.C. Supertones, and Mary Chapin Carpenter. I'm all over the map. But my all time *favorite* artists are No Doubt, Patty Griffin, Carolyn Dawn Johnson, Amanda Marshall, Metallica, Garbage, Lyle Lovett, Nicole C. Mullen, dc Talk, The Kinleys, Lucy Kaplansky, Bonnie Raitt, Marilyn Manson, Chantal Kreviazuk, Enya, TLC, SHeDAISY, RSJ, Linkin Park, Melanie C, Watermark, Shannon Brown, Tara Lyn Hart, Susan Ashton, Sheryl Crow, Five Finger Death Punch, Matraca Berg, and Chely Wright. 2005 favorites were Ciara's "Goodies" and Gwen's debut album. =0) 2006 favorites were Coldplay, The Killers, and KT Tunstall. 2007 favorite was Five Finger Death Punch. Lately I have been also listening to Angie Aparo's "Hush," Kari Kimmel's "Didn't You See The Movie," The Kinley's "I Will," Trisha Yearwood's "Standing Out In A Crowd"(Because Sarah Majors rocks!!!), Red Jumpsuit Apparatus's "Your Guardian Angel," Avril Lavigne's "Keep Holding On," Patty Griffin's "Burgundy Shoes," Kelly Clarkson's "Sober," and Carolyn Dawn Johnson's "Taking Back My Brave." My guilty pleasure is Kelly Clarkson. I think she had an awesome sophomore album. And she's really sweet and adorable in person. Okay, okay, okay, I can feel you judging me, so I will move on... LOL My sister is in the process of introducing me to the Austin music scene with artists like: The Hudsons, Seth Walker, and Asylum Street Spankers. I was raised on Billy Joel, Elton John, The Pointer Sisters, Cyndi Lauper, Tina Turner, and Whitney Houston. The first tape I ever owned was Whitney Houston- "Whitney Houston." The first CD I ever owned was Erasure- "POP!- 20 Hits." My adolescent years were spent listening to Wilson Phillips, Boyz II Men, Gloria Estefan, Amy Grant, Janet Jackson, and Metallica. Some of my all time favorite songs are: Nine Inch Nails- "The Perfect Drug," Metallica- "Whiskey In The Jar," Amanda Marshall- "Dark Horse," Patty Griffin- "Rain," Anointed- "Send Out A Prayer," and Queensryche- "Silent Lucidity." I also love anything that Kristyn Osborn has a hand in writing. My favorite song to hear performed live is Bonnie Raitt's "I Can't Make You Love Me." Talk about a heart dropping performance! Of course a Patty Griffin concert is like no other concert experience I have ever been a part of- I felt like there should have been offering plates passed around and it should have ended with a prayer. LOL I have seen the musical Rent two times and "Seasons of Love" has always been overwhelming to hear live. I saw Emmylou Harris and Shawn Colvin in concert and realized that I am an absolute idiot to have not been in love with their music a long time ago. Shawn had me floored. One of my goals before I die is to see Amanda Marshall in concert. And if I was on an island and I could only have one music choice it would have to be Metallica. And I am a total freak because I love Metallica's old stuff and their new stuff. Bonnie Raitt is a close second. =0) Oh, and I am not ashamed that the Dixie Chicks are from Texas. =0) I will still support them.

Movies:

Return To Me, Super Troopers, Juno, Playing By Heart, Miss Congeniality, The Sweetest Thing, Martian Child, Breakfast Club, Clue, Indian Summer, Dogma, Gray Matters, Elf, Girl Interrupted, Home For The Holidays, Now And Then, Kissing Jessica Stein, Loving Annabelle, When A Man Loves A Woman, Erin Brockovich, The Opposite of Sex, Steel Magnolias, Dumb and Dumber, Amy's O, Rent, Dazed and Confused, Training Day, Boys on the Side, School of Rock, Imagine Me & You, Pirates of the Caribbean, The Pianist, The Life of David Gale, The Goonies, Radio Flyer, Garden State, Chasing Amy, Happy Texas, Fargo, Something About Mary, Notting Hill, Office Space, Charlie's Angels 1 and 2, Tomb Raider 1 and 2, Bed of Roses, Snatch, Hot Fuzz, The Mighty, Two Weeks, A League of Their Own, Saved, The Fifth Element, Knocked Up, XXX, Liar Liar, and The Cutting Edge. I am a fan of anything by Mel Brooks!! I was raised on his movies. He is a god. LOL I enjoy anything by Kevin Smith or Guy Ritchie. I typically love movies with Bill Murray, the Wilson brothers, or Will Ferrell. My family supports anything by Mr. Wes Anderson. ;0) My all time favorite movie is The Princess Bride. Dirty Dancing would be a close second. I love independent films. They always portray a fascinating slice of life. FYI- I hate scary movies. I am a wuss. And for those who have not seen it, I highly recommend the movie Crash.

Television:

Law and Order- SVU, Grey's Anatomy, Scrubs, Reno 911, Family Guy, CSI, Heroes, Arrested Development, Cashmere Maffia, House MD, Gilmore Girls(gone), Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip(canceled), Punk'd, South Of Nowhere, and Crossing Jordan(gone). I have always enjoyed the dorky Jeff Corwin on the Jeff Corwin Experience. I am also in to Women's Murder Club(Harmon rocks, but I think the show was cancelled too!)

Books:

I rarely read... I just don't have the time or patience. Lately I have been reading books that are related to psychiatry. Of course my collection is filled with self-help books, screenplays, or biographies. But some of the books I have enjoyed over the years are: Band of Brothers by Stephen E. Ambrose; America- A Citizen's Guide to Democracy Inaction- Daily Show/Jon Stewart; Gold- A Devotional by Crystal Lewis; Mother Teresa: No Greater Love by Mother Teresa; Girl Interrupted by Susanna Kaysen; Tender Mercies: Inside the World Of A Child Abuse Investigator by Keith Richards; The New Birth Order Book by Kevin Leman; Turning Stones: My Days and Nights With Children At Risk by Marc Parent; and Where Angels Walk by Joan Wester Anderson. I love ANYTHING by Dave Barry, Kay Redfield Jamison, or Dave Peltzer

Heroes:

Anyone that was inspired to make a difference in the world. Anyone that has passion. People that are not afraid to be themselves. Specific people I admire are as follows: AMY GRANT- I've been a fan of hers for decades. I love to hear her thoughts on life. DAVE BARRY- This guy speaks "my language." LOL He has definitely inspired my writing style. DAVE PELZER- An amazing speaker, writer, and child abuse survivor. I was able to meet him, and I am sure I sounded like a complete idiot. KRISTYN OSBORN- Singer, songwriter, and fellow oldest child. She has an beautiful voice and writes incredible lyrics. MEL BROOKS- He is a god. I was raised on his type humor. I could quote him for hours, just ask me. LOL MOTHER TERESA- One of God's faithful servants and the original social worker. NICOLE C. MULLEN- Singer, songwriter, mother, choreographer, dancer, mentor, etc, etc. She's a trip.
