T.J. was born in Houston, Texas. He began playing bass guitar at the age of ten. T.J. attended Cullen Jr. High, where he started playing the trumpet. By the time he enrolled at Jack Yates Sr. High he had learned to play several brass instruments.
As a student at Texas Southern University, T.J. majored in music and electronics. He did some arranging for the "TSU Jazz Ensemble", and played bass and guitar in the band. By that time "T.J." had been playing bass professionally for four years, and he was known through-out the musical community of Houston.
After leaving Texas Southern University, T.J. appeared on Ed McMahan's Star Search, where he performed with vocal group, "Heaven the Band". The band won five times and advanced to the semi-finals.
T.J. has played bass for such noted recording artist as: Arnet Cobb, Conrad Johnson, Paul Jackson Jr., Howard Hewett, Eddie Harris, Kirk Whalum, Kim Waters, Billy Paul, Melba Moore, Marion Meadows, Ronnie Laws, and Dexter Wanzel. While performing as an opening act for concerts, T.J. has opened shows for such stars as Chaka Kahn, Roger Troutman and Zapp, and a host of others. Now writing, recording and producing his own music, T.J. has plans for further success in the entertainment industry.
