The Mae Lee fund for Global Perspectives is a non-profit organization dedicated to raising funds to provide scholarships to under represented groups for study abroad.The Mae Lee fund believes that study abroad is an integral component of higher education because it inspires participants to new heights. Study abroad reveals the not always internalized truth that the world expands beyond our own experiences, neighborhoods, states and immediate borders. This realization is one of the most profound rights of passage because it is capable of changing lives.While the programs that provide this invaluable experience are amazing, they are prohibitively expensive for many groups. Study abroad is most notably prohibitively expensive for people of color whose communities are plagued with pigeonholes. Study abroad can alleviate the self imposed constraints that have been inadvertently fortified by day to day realities.In response, The Mae Lee fund has actively sought to put an end to the notion that study abroad is reserved only for the elite. First, it has started a fund raising campaign to help provide this invaluable experience to as many people as possible. The scholarships are awarded based on merit and an essay writing contest, which is announced twice a year.Secondly, The Mae Lee fund’s goal is not only to spread inspiration and enlightenment through financial gifts, but also to provide awareness to the experience that can positively change lives and perspectives… Help give someone the world!
