About Me

I grew up on the Westside of Chicago, Illinois. As a kid, I spent most of my time on the streets and found myself in many fights. As I got older, I started hanging out with the local gang, but I soon realized this was not the life for me. At the age of seventeen, I was shot five times at close range. My lung collapsed, and I spent the summer in the hospital recuperating. After I got out the hospital, I decided to turn my life around and finished high school. I then enrolled at Northern Illinois University, where I was a member of the wrestling team. While in college I learned of Mixed Martial Arts and fell in love, but I never let fighting get in the way of my schooling. I graduated from Northern Illinois with a degree in psychology and decided to get a Masters Degree. I was always told that I would never succeed in life, and that's why you see me constantly going to school. I wanted to prove everybody wrong, and now I am somebody. I'm still in school and hanging on strong. I finished my thesis on children with ADHD while training for my fight in UFC 67 against Jorge Rivera. I am now working on my doctoral thesis for a PhD in Clinical Psychology. I train five days a week at FloMMA.com
