Roots of Rebellion

As the lights dim, a roar of 'ROOTS' is heard over the crowd. As Roots of Rebellion explode into their set, it is easy to see why crowds continue to fill venues in support. Blending rock with percussive and riff-oriented elements of metal and even an electronic influence, ROR has a sound all their own.
Formed in 2001, North Jersey based Roots of Rebellion have been rocking out with crowds at the Starland Ballroom, CBGB's, The Stone Pony as well as other NY/NJ joints for the past several years. The five piece band, led by the powerful and unforgettable voice of frontman John Penola, has released two self produced CD's. The Looking Glass, released in 2004, sold 1,000 copies. The Looking Glass was recorded at a time when most of the band was still in high school, and two of the band members could not even drive.
With Roots' latest release Surfacing, released in April of 2006, the band has been getting more and more noticed. With gigs at The Starland Ballroom including opening slots for King's X, as well as Powerman 5000, ROR is making a name for themselves all around New Jersey and New York.
