Mongo Slade hails from Paterson, NJ where he founded a local rap group named F.O.D. The acronym F.O.D had a dual meaning at the time: Facez of Death or For One Dream. With hard work and relentless determination F.O.D became a prosperous movement.
By 1999 Mongo secured a lucrative production deal for F.O.D with legendary producer Nile Rodgers. Nile's company Sumthin Else Music signed F.O.D and also gave Mongo the opportunity to perform as Director of Marketing and Promotions.
By 2001 Mongo had developed such a reputation as a promoter and a producer that other companies began contracting his services. Through his associations with Butch Lewis Productions, Frontline Marketing, and Flavor Unit; Mongo has had the opportunity to work very closely with Denzel Washington, Queen Latifah, Wendy Williams, Roy Jones Jr. and many more high profile celebrity brands.
After having marginal success with F.O.D; Mongo began to realize that the music game was much more difficult than he had anticipated. In 2002 Industry politics and serious legal issues surrounding the group; forced F.O.D to take a step back.
From 2002-05 Mongo worked as a producer for JSM MUSIC NYC. Through JSM
Mongo performed in commercials for: Twix, Reebok, Wendy's, Dr. Pepper, and Pepsi. After licensing an F.O.D song titled “Keep It Ghetto†for a big commercial campaign; Mongo decided to make “Keep It Ghetto†a single.
