My Interests

I like music a lot. I spend most of my free time with my friends, they're lovely. Roadtrips are fun, as is most traveling in general. I like technology a little too much. I love to learn and I try to read as much as I can, carry on tons of intelligent discussion, and just generally try to absorb knowledge. I am quite into politics. Movies are rad. I book shows, I go to shows, I play shows. I like to try to exercise somewhat regularly and occasionally try skateboarding although I haven't devoted enough time to it to be good at all. I like video games but I rarely play them. I have many other interests, quite a broad category of information that is.

I'd like to meet:

YOU

Music:

Lots, most. I am not biased towards any particular genre. I like what I like. Some of it is great, and some I know isn't but I still like it regardless. This obviously isn't a list of every band I like or listen to, but merely what pops into my head at this particular moment to give you a taste of my eclectic interests in what I consider one of the most important things in my life: music.

Bands that made me want to play music:
The Beatles, Nirvana, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Pearl Jam, Blink 182, old Motown, old swing and big band, Everclear, Weezer, Aerosmith, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Beach Boys, Jimmy Eat World, U2
Bands that I love and am influenced by now:
Radiohead, The Flaming Lips, Death Cab for Cutie, David Bowie, Brand New, Modest Mouse, The Smiths (and Morrissey!!), Joy Division, Coldplay, The Strokes, Bright Eyes, Miles Davis, At the Drive-In, The Mars Volta, John Coltrane, Thelonious Monk, Dizzy Gilespie, David Brubeck, Count Basie, Taking Back Sunday, Bob Marley, Motion City Soundtrack, Beck, Gorillaz, Kanye West, Outkast, The Pixies, The Shins, The Who, Gym Class Heroes, Cursive, Minus the Bear, Wolf Parade, Refused, NoFX, Bad Religion, Green Day, The Offspring, Rancid, John Lennon, Johnny Cash, Hellogoodbye, Interpol, Elliott Smith, The Cure, The Dillinger Escape Plan, The White Stipes, A.F.I., The Clash, Coheed and Cambria, Incubus, The Doors, Dashboard Confessional, Hot Hot Heat, Led Zeppelin, John Mayer, The Killers, Phantom Planet, Nine Inch Nails, Neutral Milk Hotel, Rush, The Smashing Pumpkins, Sonic Youth, and SO MANY MORE
My friends that make amazing music:
Look What I Did, L.A.O. (R.I.P.), Shapiro, Foxy Shazam, Tourmaline, twelve.o.one, Brand New Disaster (R.I.P.), The Riot Before, Swoops Bandit, Farewell Flight, Quiet Life, Damiera, Olympia, The Kennedy Omen, The Sad Lives of the Hollywood Lovers (R.I.P.), American Tourist, Left of Nowhere, Yours for Mine, Lightbreak, and anyone else I forgot!

Here's what I've been listening to lately:

Movies:

Donnie Darko, Garden State, SLC Punk, Quentin Tarentino films, Tim Burton films, Kevin Smith Films, Fight Club, This Is Spinal Tap, James Bond, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, The Matrix, Austin Powers, School of Rock, Wayne's World, Trainspotting, Indiana Jones, anything Monty Python, Fear and Loathing In Las Vegas, Rushmore, Napolean Dynomite, I 3 Huckabees, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, UHF, Pulp Fiction, The Godfather, Ghostbusters, most Adam Sandler movies, Almost Famous, Airplane!, Top Secret, SNAKES ON A PLANE, A Scanner Darkly, V for Vendetta, Animal House, and most mainstream 80s films

Television:

Don't watch it much, wish I didn't at all. When I do it's The Colbert Report, Family Guy, The Discovery Channel, The History Channel, Animal Planet, Law & Order, The Simpsons, VH1, Rob & Big, The O.C., Laguna Beach, The Daily Show, The News

Books:

I wish I read more. I feel like I don't have the time, but really isn't that just an excuse for not making the time? I have recently gotten into reading a lot more non-fiction since I'm not in school. I really dig books about astronomy, theoretical physics, time travel, evolution, and related subjects. Carl Sagan and Stephen Hawking are both great. Freakonomics by Steven D. Levitt is an incredible read, check it out if you haven't! I love Ian Fleming and John Gardner's James Bond books, Lord of the Rings, anything Ray Bradbury, The Catcher and the Rye, The Great Gatsby, Michael Crichton, and tons of other stuff... let me know if you've read any good books lately.

Heroes:

Steven D. Levitt, Stephen Colbert, Stephen Hawking, Steve Jobbs... pretty much anyone named Steve
