About Me

Book me! Book me now! For any gigs- local, regional, national, international- just book me! I'm a bad dude... I've played warm ups for artists like The Wailers, The Meditations, Sister Carol, Capleton, Stephen and Damion Marley, Sean Paul, T.O.K, and Tanto Metro and Devonte... and have shared the decks with cats like Diesel Boy and Unity of Lonestar Sound...I play all kinds of Jamaican music- roots, rocksteady, ska, digital era, culture, and dancehall. However, I'm an American so I try to reflect that as well. The American side- my background in hip hop- comes across in my presentation. I haven't adopted the carribean style of pulling up tunes and chatting on the mic a lot. I try to down play my role- make it about the crowd, the vibe, the party, and the music. There are two things I'd like to touch on about my philosophy on selection...a) I am not ideologically attached to my music, although I've been profoundly effected and inspired by it. Just because I play "Boom Bye Bye" doesn't mean I codone hate crimes. With regards to a more complicated debate amongst (especially white, American) reggae DJs, just because I play a gun tune doesn't mean I condone violence. I simply try to play quality tunes that reflect all sides of the Jamaican musical experience. Those who limit themselves do themselves and their audiences a disservice. Censorship of any kind has no place music....b) Historical perspective is very important to me. I try to build my collection based on riddims, usually classic stuff that has been re-versioned multiple times. I like to play this stuff all together- sometimes spanning thirty years in six minutes. This style of play is only possible with reggae music, at least on a consistant basis, because reggae is the only genre that allows for this constant reworking of the classics. Don't get me wrong, I play a lot of up to date, flash in the pan stuff too, but the classic riddims are my bread and butter. If you don't know what the Stalag, Hot Milk, or Sleng Teng are, then you need me in your life...Besides playing reggae at least once a week, I'm also a student at the University of Pittsburgh, a writer, an outdoorsman, and a pretty decent cook. I'm real accessible, if not by myspace (which really sucks now), approach me at a gig. I'm always down to answer a question or just say hi or whatever. Please add me if:a) you like reggae in any way shape or form. b) if you're not sure about reggae, but you love Sublime, The Clash, Bad Brains, The Police, The Cure, and/or 311. c) you're looking for something fun to do in Pittsburgh. d) you're from Pittsburgh and enjoy Steelers games, pierogies, and/or hulushki. Please don't add me if:a) you're going to tell me, at any time, that my manhood isn't big enough. My penis is fine, thank you. b) you're just going to post glitter kitties that tell me how I rock in my comments. c) you have a nude website you will try to direct me to. d) you are going to try to get me to refinance, get a mortgage, buy insurance, etc. e) you have so many videos, slideshows, and pics on your site that it freezes my broadband. f) you're ANOTHER myspace rapper. Ok, it's easy to make bad hip hop music and post it on your music page, we know already. Try your luck at something eeverybody else ISN'T doing. I edited my profile with Thomas' Myspace Editor V4.4
