I am here for Networking

About Me

Hey there fellow myspace members, first let me say that I am married to a wonderful guy and have a great life here on Whidbey Island, second I'm a grandparent with two grand boys, they live in Connecticut and Montana. I myself was from the state of Connecticut, and did some sailing there a little camping, but nothing like what I do now. I've done a lot in the short time that I've been here. I became a Glacier Climber, and summiting Mt. Rainier, Mt. Baker, Mt. St. Helen's, Mt. Adams, and Mt. Hood. I've summited the Volcano on the Big Island of Hawaii and hiked the Tonto East and West trail in the Grand Canyon. I am also a kayaker and have kayaked in Southeastern Alaska a few times. Along with my husband Felix we have kayaked Misty Fjords near Ketchikan Ak., and camped along its banks, we've done Kenai Fjords near Seward Ak, and Glacier Bay National Park in Gustavus Ak. We live on Whidbey Island and have kayaked in its waters and around the San Juan Islands. I've done a few sailing trips while living on the east cost, why back in 1992 I did the Tortola route in the British Virgin Islands (BVI). Felix was climbing mountains while I was sailing, he climbed Mt. McKinley and Mt. Blanc which were among many of the hikes he did before the year 2000. Oh I almost forgot to tell you about the many times we'd hiked and camped along the beaches in the Olympic Peninsula. What a beautiful place that is. In August we are planning to canoe down the Noatak river near Fairbanks Alaska. This is also the same time when the great caribue migrate. How about yourself, what do you do for fun? "SMILE" This is a picture of myself and my two brothers Dwayne and Dave at the World's Fair in 1965 Here we are at the Seattle Opra House Felix and I with Composer Hugh Aitken Here is his bio: Born September 7, 1924 in New York, NY. After having served as navigator on a bomber flying out of Italy during the final months of WW II, Hugh Aitken entered The Juilliard School, which his father, a violinist, had also attended. There he studied clarinet with Arthur Christmann and composition with Vincent Persichetti, Bernard Wagenaar and Robert Ward. Graduating in 1950, he joined the faculty and taught there for twenty years. From 1970 to 1996, he was professor at William Paterson University in New Jersey. Now retired from teaching, he lives with his wife, Laura Tapia Aitken, in Oakland, New Jersey, and Lancaster, New Hampshire. Aitken has composed over eighty works, including two operas, three violin concertos, a large-scale oratorio The Revelation of St. John the Divine and ten solo cantatas for voice and instruments. He has been commissioned by, among others, Yo-Yo Ma and Emanuel Ax, the Seattle Symphony, the Emerson String Quartet, the Coolidge Foundation at the Library of Congress, the Naumburg Foundation, the New York Chamber Soloists and Jan Opalach. Recent premieres include a duo for cello and piano performed by Yo-Yo Ma and Emanuel Ax, and Symphony, conducted by Gerard Schwarz with the Seattle Symphony. Upcoming is Laura Goes to India, to be played by the Emerson String Quartet. He has received awards from The American Academy and Institute for Arts and Letters, and The National Endowment for the Arts. Eleven of Aitken’s works are available from Tower Records and Amazon.com on CDs from Composers Recordings Inc., Artek, and New World Records. On Artek 0004, Gerard Schwarz conducts the Seattle Symphony in Aspen Concerto for violin and orchestra, featuring Elmar Oliveira, Rameau Remembered for flute and orchestra with Scott Goff as soloist, and In Praise of Ockeghem for strings. His music is published by Theodore Presser and Oxford University Press. A book, The Piece as a Whole, studies in holistic analysis, is published by Greenwood Press. He is currently working on a book, A Reader¹s Guide to the Bach cello suites.

How to Fold the Flag

..
©2008 ushistory.org

Fold the flag in half width-wise twice. If done by two, then the blue field should be facing the bottom on the first fold. Fold up a triangle, starting at the striped end ... and repeat ... until only the end of the union is exposed. Then fold down the square into a triangle and tuck inside the folds.
