DAYSEND (NSW), one of the tightest and most dynamic live bands in the land have finally unleashed one of the most anticipated metal albums of 2007, a powerful 12 track monster metal album of hard edged yet melodic progressive metal of epic proportions aptly titled “THE WARNINGâ€. Since the huge success of their 2003 debut album “Severanceâ€, Daysend have been propelled to the top of the Australian Metal scene, with acclaim from both fans and critics. Now, “THE WARNINGâ€, produced by metal maestro DW Norton, is sure to take the band to the forefront of the world’s stage.
Born out of the ashes of Dungeon, one of Australia’s leading heavy metal bands, LORD (NSW), are continuing with the same style of music and playing all of the old Dungeon classic anthems at their energetic and entertaining live shows. LORD is currently recording the follow-up album to the "A Personal Journey" album, entitled "Ascendence" which is due out in mid-2007. Dungeon's music will be forever etched into Australian metal history but LORD’s journey has only just begun. With such a powerful foundation and a driving hunger to take it even further beyond, LORD's future is bright as they proudly continue on with Dungeon's legacy: 100% Pure Aussie Heavy Metal.
TERRORUST are smashing the boundaries and reinventing chaos. Emerging in late 2005 from the ashes of legendary metal act Damaged, and featuring extreme metal drum legend Matt Skitz, Terrorust released their debut album "Post Mortal Archives" in 2006 to great acclaim. "Considered one of Australia's most intense bands" (WesternFront), Terrorust have undoubtedly hit the ground running having already scored supports with the likes of Skinless, Nevermore, Deicide, Nile, Decapitated and Celtic Frost all in the last 9 months. Early 2007 saw a line up change with James Ludbrook leaving and Terrorust enlisting Matt Storma (Torsorgy, Cavity Maggot) on vocals. With the lineup now solid the band are focused on performing and recording.
Like an inexperienced left hand hopelessly fondling at the musical clitoris and with a commercial indifference, FIVE STAR PRISON CELL are the masters of a fresh and non-conformist formula to the way music is written. Crazy off time and out there math metal that chugs and churns through a firestorm of intense riffing, brutal drumming and a vocal tirade unique to front (mad) man Adam Glynn. “Five Star†push the boundaries of metal to the extreme and beyond, forging a style the band can now call their own and have become the leaders of their genre on Aussie soil. The follow up to their successful debut “The Complete First Season,†Five Star Prison Cell have excelled themselves with album number two SLAVES OF VIRGO... Produced by dw Norton, it is 11 tracks of mind melting metal that ranks with the very best in the world.
Since their inception more than 10 years ago DREADNAUGHT have established themselves as a cornerstone of the Australian heavy rock/metal scene. Dreadnaught have never failed to provide their loyal fans, both new and old alike, with diverse offerings rooted in the brand of Australian rock and metal that, as other bands have come and gone, this band become a historic part of. Headlining tours, high profile supports, and mainstay slots on leading Australian metal and rock festivals have earned Dreadnaught the reputation as one of Australia’s finest and hardest working live acts.
Arising from humble beginnings, progressive/thrash metallers ANARION have cemented their status as one of Australia’s premier heavy metal outfits. 2005 saw Anarion record the album ‘Unbroken’ and in 2006 sign to international record label Majestic Rock Records. In March of 2006 Anarion embarked upon their first international tour, which included a place on the bill at the prestigious Independence D festival in Tokyo, Japan. The band triumph over the crowds in Japan has placed them on good stead for International supports for Canadian thrashers Annihilator and German metal giants Masterplan for late 2007. As the Anarion juggernaut rolls on– the underlying band motto always remains the same: “….you bring the mosh, we bring the metal…..â€
Combining the precision of technical death metal with the abrasive turbulence of grindcore, Adelaide’s OMNIUM (SA) meld startling technical insight with the energy and unpredictability of live performance. Baffling time signatures, dissonant chordal structures and moments of 'bang-your-head' aggression along with omnium's careful attention to songcraft and musicianship work to complement rather than compromise the ferocity and intensity of the music.
From the moment Melbourne’s NE OBLIVISCARIS hit the live scene in early 2006, the hype has been building… and building. Scoring slots on Australia’s Metal For the Brain Festival, and a support for Suffocation without even a demo to be heard of, Ne Obliviscaris finally released their debut recording ‘The Aurora Veil’ demo in April, 2007, to rave reviews from press and fans alike. Ne Obliviscaris have quickly established themselves as a band with not only a unique approach to metal (blending progressive, melodic and extreme styles with virtuosic violin playing and featuring 'The Fastest Feet In Australia' as decided by the Australian 'World's Fastest Drummer' Competition in 2006), but also an ability to attract an ever growing, deeply passionate fan base.
After making their first trip to Melbourne in April of 2007 to join Ne Obliviscaris and Be’lakor for a triple CD launch: EMPYREAN (QLD), will be bringing their brand of symphonic black/death metal back down south to perform at this years Sonic Forge Festival. Having already graced the stage of Brisbane's leading metal festival 'Overcranked' and played with the likes of Dark Tranquility (Swe), Insision (Swe), Iron Lung (USA), Vader (Pol), and with a blistering live show, this is definitely one band not to be missed.
Self-proclaimed as “Port Phillip Bay Area Thrash†and “Scandistralian metalâ€, and with a female vocalist that would give Angela Gossow (Arch Enemy) a run for her money, BLACK LIKE VENGEANCE have developed a fearsome live reputation in only 18 months on the live scene. After their very well received demo CD “All Has Blackened†attracted the attention of Truth Inc. Records in 2006, BLV went back into Complex studios in the first half of 2007 to record their new 7 track EP, due for release this September.
DARKEST DAWN, previously known as The Deadly, are an act which consists of some of the most dynamic, talented and explosive musicians to play/tour across Australia and in turn, are in preparation to present themselves to audiences worldwide. Due to release their debut album ‘End of Season’ in August, 2007, Darkest Dawn have created a release that will not only entice but will leave you spectacularly stunned! Strong and soaring female/male harmony, that increases the emotion of the music, which is nothing short of exhilarating, intense and melodic. This dynamic seven piece is moving forward at such rapid speeds that even their heads are spinning. Gig after gig, review after review...this band is leaving the harshest critics floored and fans of all styles of metal and rock thirsting for more.
BE'LAKOR's intricate mix of melody, dark atmospheres and death metal has seen them garner much attention for themselves in recent times. After first hitting the live scene in late 2005, they spent much of 2006 away in the studio working on their first release; the result being a stunning debut, ‘The Frail Tide’. Receiving rave reviews worldwide, and regular airplay on JJJ’s Full Metal Racket, Be’lakor are one of the most promising new metal bands in Australia.
Since blazing onto the Australian metal scene in mid-2004, Aussie black/gothic metal band LEICOHTICA (NSW) has proven it’s a force to be reckoned with. Making their first ever trip to Melbourne for this years Sonic Forge Festival, they have been described by critics as “defiantly beautiful and angelically graceful whilst simultaneously bearing the full force of hell down upon its listeners.†Their latest album, ‘The Balance of Fire’ blends elements of neo-classical death metal, symphonic black metal and gothic metal into what can only be described as viciously brutal and immensely soft. To get this sound the band uses soprano, mezzo-soprano and baritone operatic voices with crushing death metal growls, furious double kicks and devastating guitar riffage in a disobediently eclectic “beauty and the beast†style.
