What's going on?
I've been taking lots of photos with my sexy new canon 20d. I'm planning to make a short film using the camera's 5 frames per second burst mode and animation software....i'll post it here when it's done.

I've been incredibly busy with making layouts, websites, cd covers and illustrations. If you email me and i don't get back to you right away, it's just because of my horrible time management skills. I'll do my best to keep up!

I'm gonna be selling some of my illustrations soon, including many of my daytrotter illustrations and the original drawing and watercolor painting used in billy corgan's current myspace header. I'll put up a link to the ebay auction when I put 'em up. If you think you might be interested in buying any of that stuff, let me know...

Here's a test run of the short film I'm working on. It's going to be a video for Smashing Pumpkins. Part stop-motion, part traditional, hand-drawn illustration. For this ten second clip, I drew 80 frames:

The Family
My husband and I have been together for ten years now. His name is Randall and he's pretty awesome. He's my best friend, and after all these years I'm still pretty hot for the guy. We have a daughter named Riley, who is almost 7 now. She's a silly kid who loves to make art and dance around like a crazy person. She digs David Bowie and Pat Benetar. She's cool. We have a cat named Sushi. She likes to greet us when we drive home from work. She thinks she's a dog.

What's With this Smashing Pumpkins Thing?
So let's see...back when I was about 17 (1991-ish), I was introduced to the music of Smashing Pumpkins (thanks Mary Slayter!). I wouldn't say they became my favorite band right at that point, but I definitely dug them a lot. It was about two years later that Siamese Dream came out and changed my world. I became, pretty much, completely obsessed. Over the next several years, the Pumpkins were the most important part of my life (which is kinda sad really, but it's true). Sometime around 2000, though, I kind of lost some interest, as I had my daughter within weeks of the release of "machina", which was the first album aside from "gish" that I didn't buy the day it came out. I had more important things on my mind, like learning how to be a mom...
But over the last couple of years, I've gotten a renewed interest in the band. I was really impressed with Billy Corgan's solo album, and meeting him before one of his show's last summer really did get me excited about Smashing Pumpkins again. Especially after finding out that the band was getting back together! Recently I was lucky enough to do some art work for the band, designing Billy's myspace layout, and making a wallpaper that the band put on their page. (If you want the wallpaper for yourself, click on the thumbnail near the top of the page and it will open a bigger image you can save to your computer).
So yeah. I'm not completely obsessed like I was 12 years ago, but they are definitely still my favorite band, and I can't wait to hear the new album (which I hear is amazing so far!)

About me?
ok here you go: Mom, artist, wife, nerd, musician, goofball, a pretty nice girl I think. I'm 33 but I don't feel like a grown up. I got stuck somewhere around 18. That's cool, I'm in no hurry to be a grown-up. Grown-ups are lame.I'm an illustrator for Daytrotter.com . I'm a graphic designer at my town's local newspaper. I do freelance stuff, check it out: Shannon Palmer Art & Design . And then of course, there's What Noisy Cats Are We , my mp3 blog. I post a lot of mp3s of indie rock bands. There are a couple of podcasts there too.when i was a kid, my last name was O'Rear. Imagine going through life with a last name like that. Even better than that, I once had a boyfriend named Stephen Butts. No, seriously.

Layout Help?
I've had a lot of requests, mainly from bands, to help them with their myspace layouts. I'd be happy to do this, but I do charge a small fee for this sort of thing (it's my job, it's how I pay th'bills, understand). For a very minimal fee (email to ask me how much), I'll create a custom header for your page, as well as contact table and background image, and help you lay out your page in a nice streamlined way. Go ahead and send me a message if you'd like to find out more.
