Play it loud

About Me

Umbrtka was formed as a traditional black metal band in 1999, with the notable exception of using sheet metal plates and dustbins instead of a normal drum kit. Eight years and some ten albums later we play what we like to call "grey metal". Our music draws from all kinds of metal and incorporates both accomplished and spectacularly inept playing, singing and songwriting, creating a maelström of weirdness. Or something.
All the lyrics are in Czech and they generally deal with things listed on this page as our "influences". Many of them also mention the eponymous Umbrtka, who is a god-like personification of the old industrial town.
This page is mainly for the few people who've heard about us outside of the Czech Republic, as our homepage doesn't have an English section. If you like what you hear, drop us a line. You can also order any of our albums, but keep in mind they're just CD-Rs. While Morbivod's other projects such as Stiny Plamenu have found a label, Umbrtka is still deeply underground and we feel it's going to be that way for a long time. But that certainly isn't stopping us from recording more stuff for those who appreciate it.
