DURHAM - Hot cars, hot motorcycles, hot music and hot women were all on display Saturday afternoon in the Bull City.
A broad swath of the Triangle's community turned out for the first annual N.C. Hot Car and Bike Weekend, to network, gaze at some sultry vehicles, watch musical performances and rub elbows with the stars."I love the cars, they're over the top. Ludacris is cool. This is a great event," said James Garrison, a New York City property appraiser who was visiting. "Up north, they have events like this. People might be acting crazy up there. This is just classy and nice for us."Most in attendance, from old men to little kids to hip-hop lovers to "gear heads," seemed to want to get a quick look at Atlanta-based hip-hop and movie star Ludacris, a guest host for the event. Organizer Brian Dawson, a WQOK-FM 97.5 radio personality, said he might have to get a larger venue next year.Dawson almost needed it Saturday, as a line several hundred deep waited to get autographs from the rap star.Also walking around the event, with a flock of ladies on each arm, Triangle rapper Carldrelius "Spitz" Brunson distributed his own CDs and tried to put his name out.Brunson, 25, a Fuquay-Varina native, said the event was excellent for the community, with many black businesses setting up booths and area artists getting a chance to perform and mingle with national stars."I love it. I'm more into the people than the cars. When you get this many black people in one spot, chilling. It's just mad love here," Brunson said as four women hovered nearby and distributed his CD to passers-by. "You don't feel like you have to worry about anything today. Everybody is here for a cause."Many of the local and aspiring rappers who attended listened intently as Ludacris and a panel of national music industry types gave advice about keeping up with music trends and how to navigate the tricky nature of the business.
