Gabo and the Wastrels started in May 2007 when Gabo, an artist and musician from New York living in Göteborg, Sweden, came across a Swedish family playing marching band music on the side of the street in Göteborg. The family band was made up of a father, Jonny Wartel (b.1959), playing sax, his daughter, Georgia (b.1995), playing bass drum, and his nephew, Andreas (b.1984), playing snare. Gabo approached the Wartels and proposed a collaboration. The band was formed in the basement of the Valand Art Academy two days later. The self-released self-titled debut came out in November '07 in conjunction with a tour stateside, which also saw new musicians filling in for Jonny and Georgia. The band has played shows with Deerhoof, FM3, Fiasco, Wildbirds and Peacedrums, and Kocho-bi-Sexual among many others. ............................................................ ................................................. ............................................................ ....... ............................................................ .................................................
