Rhett Camden defines his life and art by change and variety. Born in Guam, growing up in Bangladesh, and visiting many places in between, he has experienced a plethora of places and cultures. His music reflects this affinity for change and exploration.
Starting with the bass guitar at the age of 15 (inspired by Iron Maiden’s “Rime of the Ancient Mariner†and by the band Rush), Rhett began writing songs in earnest by the age of 18. When his predominately self-taught bass playing led him to pick up a guitar (this time learning the instrument entirely on his own -- no influences from teachers or from learning covers), his writing took a stylistic turn. Rhett has continued to play, write, and expand after almost two decades of music.
With songs ranging from folk, jazz/classical instrumental, rock, and heavy metal, Rhett is interested in exploring a variety of styles. Though the genres of his songs may vary, the themes of his songs tend to focus on the universals of love and life. While some songs express bitterness and emotional abandonment, others explore the greatest joys of connection and love. A background in philosophy leads the majority of his music to act as a venue for spiritual and intellectual exploration.
In addition to over 180 songs, Rhett has authored some 260 poems. He is also a certified audio engineer: he graduated from the Recording Workshop in Chillicothe, Ohio, and completed an internship at Cider Mountain Recorders in Athol, Idaho. His various recording projects include the debut album of Idaho Falls’ Airlift .
