The Queen Bee

Thou art to me a delicious torment.

About Me

I'm originally from Seattle, Washington, having moved to Los Angeles five years ago from Washington, DC (I lived there for about five years, too). My professional background is primarily in television programming and TV/film production but my experiences are broad -- from public relations to talent management and music promotions... Currently, I am proud to be working as a promo/web writer for KCRW 89.9 FM.
I am blessed beyond my deserving and am grateful for all of the gifts in my life: the abundance of love that is so freely given to me; sobriety; a healthy mind and strong body; my wonderful husband and the love of my life, Michael... Life is meaningful -- the extraordinary beauty in the world inspires me and I love to see greatness in the smallest moment... I try to be of service to both strangers and those I love (albeit, imperfectly)... Every day, I test my anxieties, moving through my fears and growing up just a little bit more. Personal growth is a major focus, it's what allows me to move beyond the beliefs, habits, people and behaviors that no longer serve me in a healthy way. I am learning to love and accept myself and understand that every mistake, misstep, adversity and difficulty is an opportunity to learn -- as long as I'm moving forward with an open-heart and mind, I am content with the knowledge that I am exactly where I am supposed to be.
"Be like the bird that, passing on her flight awhile on boughs too slight, feels them give way beneath her, and yet sings, knowing that she hath wings." - Victor Hugo
“We are well advised to keep on nodding terms with the people we used to be, whether we find them attractive company or not. Otherwise they turn up unannounced and surprise us, come hammering on the mind's door at 4 AM on a bad night and demand to know who deserted them, who betrayed them, who is going to make amends. We forget all too soon the things we thought we could never forget.” - Joan Didion

My Interests

My biggest passion is music and I spend a lot of time pursuing this interest both personally and professionally. Live music absolutely feeds my soul and supporting the local music scene is very important to me. Every week, I volunteer as a production assistant on KCRW's music shows Cafe LA and New Ground (tune-in on KCRWMusic.com!). In general, I tend to be drawn to anything remotely subversive, kitschy, raw, dark, thought-provoking, intense and provocative -- whether it's evident in people, art, performance, etc... Other stuff: mid-century design and architecture; playing my guitar; film; theater; burlesque (it's in my blood, my great grandmother was in the Ziegfeld Follies); and taking life one day at a time. I love my friends and family and am learning every day how to show them the real me and be truly vulnerable around them.

For my Seattle pals here's a link to an Internet revival of KJET 1600 AM -- it features the music of the station's first few years (1980-1985), the old IDs and even some actual radio segments... So cool. This was one of my biggest musical influences as a teen -- when you're a Jet, you're a Jet all the way, baby.
