I feel like Larry Hagman!

About Me

I am a little--okay, a lot--self-conscious about attempting to come up with words to describe this music or the processes behind it, probably because music is something I often turn to when words are an inadequate medium for conveying experience. I'll come up with a flood of words anyway; that's one of my things... I have been writing and recording music pretty much continuously since I was seven or eight years old. I think I started writing songs because of the Beatles, and not the "street cred" Beatles but the "She Loves You" Beatles. I reached a different level around my junior high days when I was constantly listening to the Sex Pistols, then I went through a long, dark metal phase before, as I used to say, "Jane's Addiction saved my life." I have never fallen out of songwriting, but I did fall back in love with it in a big way due to two amazing musicians: Jeff Buckley and John Frusciante.I love the wordless, egoless, ecstatic zone I go into when playing music sometimes; it's not a place I get to every day, but it's a place I enjoy trying to get to every day. I believe my love for wordless states--odd for a lover of literature--comes from my desire to get into the space between the symbols we use to describe existence and raw existence itself. Those closest to me know me as someone who lives for intense experiences; I love when life goes beyond something we can sit there talking about, when everything is simply vibration. Along similar lines, I love exploring cities and towns where I am not familiar with the local language, and I love listening to singers whose words I can not understand, such as Elizabeth Fraser of Cocteau Twins.
