Big Joe Hurt was born and raised in southern California's High Desert. Joe’s approach to songwriting has been described as soulful with a voice that cradles you and takes you right to the scene of the crime.
Joe was raised on the sounds of tropical Mexican Cumbias but his ears have always found a sanctuary in the sounds of Blues and Soul music. Inspiration for his music comes from the desert backdrop of his hometown, and the drama of life in the “Big City.†Joe’s sound is a percussive acoustic attack focused on locking onto the melody and pulling every drop of soul out of it.
He has lead touring Funk and Blues bands and continues to pursue his own solo career. Music has taken Joe from California to Florida and points in between. Big Joe Hurt takes you through a melancholic set of reflective, emotion filled songs. His show's are described as thoughtful, soulful and memorable, his sound has been compared to Ben Harper, and BB King.
In 2007 Joe completed "No Pain No Gain," an EP with tunes sung in Spanish and English. The album fuses the styles of Blues, Hip Hop and Soul. “No Pain No Gain,†establishes Big Joe Hurt as a dynamic songwriter in the Los Angeles music scene. “No Pain No Gain is due to be released independently in Nov of 07’.
