About Me

Goodfolk is an acoustic duo made up of musicians Carrie Kuhl and Matt Goodman. Self-taught musician and poet at heart, Carrie Kuhl has been embracing her passion for music since childhood. It wasn't until the age of 14 that she owned her first acoustic guitar. Carrie began putting her poetry to music shortly thereafter, and was composing original songs. Finding influence from singer-songwriters Carole King, Joni Mitchell, Ani DiFranco, Sarah Mclachlan, Natalie Merchant, the Indigo Girls and Patty Griffin. It took years later and a friend to convince Carrie to take her songs out to a local open mic showcasing mainly blues. Being the only female acoustic musician in a rockin' blues club, Carrie Kuhl captured the hearts of her audience and the attention of guitarist Matt Goodman. Remarkable and fearless, Matt Goodman sets no musical limits as an artist. He hones his guitar technique dabbling in all genres of music. Studying the smooth sounds of jazz cats Kenny Burrell and Grant Green, legendary and new school blues greats B.B. King and Robben Ford, fingerpicking folkies James Taylor and Paul Simon, and slide virtuosos Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks. The open jam scene in Chicago pushed Matt Goodman on an experimental ground, and made him the free-spirited musician he is today. He has had the chance to tour the U.S. with Canadian blues artist Nigel Mack, and to play with many other respectable musicians. With Matt's savory style on the guitar and Carrie's picture-painting lyricism, the two have formed a style of music that is moody and mellow...Goodfolk.
