“Sounds like Johnny Rotten and the Sex Pistols – swaggering, revengeful, spitting words with deadly venom.†DJ
“Like a hardcore garage Shaun Ryderâ€. Knowledge
‘Energetic, raw and undeniably British, Ivory is fast gaining a reputation as an uncompromising artist with one of the most exciting live shows around. A product of his generation, his music is a hybrid of garage, breakbeat, rock and punk which has drawn comparisons to The Prodigy, and has captured the attention of the new breed of indie ravers.
A self-confessed nutter on stage, Ivory and his band (drums and keys) are currently one of the most talked about live acts. All raw power, fast rhymes and big hooks, he has commanded floors from indie venues and clubs to festivals such as Glastonbury. “Simply one of the best live acts I’ve seen’ Touch Magazine.
Earlier this year Ivory released two tracks on DJ Deekline’s label Rat Records. "Free The Beast" was an infectious concoction of hip-hop inspired lyrics with pulsating and precision breakbeats which EA Games promptly snapped up for Fifa Street 2. He quickly followed this with “Wolfâ€, with sirens, howling at the moon werewolves, bad ass beats and heavy Pitchshifter guitars employed to brilliant effect.
Radio 1’s Annie Nightingale, Huw and Mary-Anne Hobbs, and Kiss FM’s Tayo became massive supporters. XFM’s Eddy Temple-Morris was moved to say: 'When I heard Ivory I thought, WOW, this guy is serious.... this is REALLY GOOD! His tunes were in my box from the day I got them and will be till the day I stop breathing! He’s amazing.'
Born in melting pot of Brixton, Ivory grew up with a mish mash of influences which have gradually shaped his sound.
At the tender age of 10 he was turned on to music when an older friend gave him a compilation tape called “Rave Nationâ€. By his 14th birthday his passion had grown and he was a regular in the hardcore jungle scene, MCing and DJing on jungle and garage pirates such as Supreme FM, Deja Vu. However, Ivory soon became bored with MCing over other people’s tracks and yearned to create his own sound. Influenced equally by The Prodigy, The Clash, old school punk and James Brown (for his showmanship), Ivory manages to blend the roughness of jungle and breakbeat with the cut throat attitude of punk and the pelvic thrust of rock. It’s a sound of a generation that was born into rave, cut its teeth on garage and grew up with indie. Its taking over and Ivory is at the helm.
