Aaliyah talking
About her Career

"My career, some would say was kind of slow burning, but I always wanted to take time out to be myself. That was something that I wanted to do. I wanted to take a break after One in a Million to just relax, think about how I wanted to approach the next album. Then when I was ready to start back up, Romeo happened, and so I had to take another break and do that film and then do the soundtrack, then promote it. That's what pushed the album back even further. When I did [the movie] Queen of the Damned, I decided to record the album at the same time so that I could release it in 2001. I don't feel I made any sacrifices at all. I done my best to juggle both. I didn't want to abandon one for the other, and I don't think I needed to sacrifice anything in order to put my all into either one of them. I don't think about my previous success. I'm happy that the work I've done in the past has been very successful. All I can do is leave it in God's hands and hope that my fans feel where I'm coming from. I took the time out to give my all. Being in Australia [filming Queen of the Damned] was really cool, because I really got to take a break from what was going on in the industry and be totally creative. I have to say two nights I will never forget, that you may remember, and that you helped make possible was the Oscars, when I preformed Journey to the Past, and of course the 2000 Video Music Awards, when I won Best Female Video for Try Again. You may remember me pulling my brother on stage with me, he is the light of my life. I always had a close relationship with Rashad (my brother), and I know alot of siblings fight, and yes I guess we did have our small riots, but the foundation we had was too strong to break. Hes my rock, and I love him."

My 2008
Video

"You should enjoy your job! You have to wake up everyday and love what you do, and I honestly do. I am truly blessed to wake up every morning and do something I love. What makes me feel happy inside is singing, dancing, acting, and making people laugh and smile. Helping others feel good about themselves is what makes me happy.Being a full on entertainer is not easy, but all the work is worth it. Just do what you can, and love them all!!! The best moments are the one's when you know that you have touched people. I am truly blessed to wake up every morning and have a career that I love and appreciate. After all, one must love what they do to do it everyday!I am a truly happy young person. There is so much more I want to do in my career. I am going to work very hard to achieve it. My goals are beyond words, I cannot every say. However, everything is worth it; the hard work, the times when you are tired, and the times when you are a bit sad.In the end, being in the entertainment industry is all worth it because it is what really makes me happy! And, I would not trade it for anything in the world. I am a good person, I have great friends, a beautiful family, and a career that I love! I am truly blessed and every moment that I get, I thank God for his blessings.FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART, TO THE DEPTHS OF MY SOUL, I AM TRULY HAPPY!"
