helix :
no boxes
Amazing performances redefining the art of destroying a dancefloor.
In a world of increasingly locked-down genres, it's hard to box DJ Helix; he plays everything – and it works. Through the past 13 years Helix has DJed funky and progressive house in Melbourne, Detroit techno in Kuala Lumpur and drum 'n bass in Iowa City. He's been voted the capital city’s number 1 psy trance DJ, and in the top 4 uplifting trance DJs. Helix is a true journey DJ with a worldwide experience, passion and crowd rapport rarely seen.
"I was really really impressed. I've never seen anyone play four records at once on three decks. You're a sick mixer! I loved your set, it was inspirational." (Ex San Francisco DJ Grant K, at Shiny, May 2007)
"The whole room gave Helix a standing ovation at Genesis for his drum 'n bass set. Awesome, awesome stuff." (Katie Hamilton writing in React, Feb '99)
â€That has to be among the nicest progressive house sets that I ever witnessed (DJ Fossil, review of Helix at Vurtigo March 2003)
"Helix is one of the bigger/biggest names in NZ Trance DJing... " (DJ Flow, May 2000)
From DJing alternative metal/punk Helix began mixing US/Detroit techno in 1994. Almost by accident, a friend got him a gig at seminal Auckland club 'The Box', and he's never looked back. With his roots in the early rave scene Helix still plays across the spectrum of dance music. You might find him playing epic uplifting trance at Wonderland, house and techno at Pure 'N Sexy, psychedelic trance at Alien Nation, progressive house at Technology, drum 'n bass at Mad Science, Industrial/EBM at Club Bizarre or his epic 5 hour set mixing it all up at Kiwiburn, scratching and using three turntables. He's also happy to play only one style to fit in with event requirements.
The adventures of Helix include the USA in '99, Southeast Asia in 2001, including the 3000-capacity superclub Movement in Kuala Lumpur and The Liquid Room Singapore. Helix played two well-received club dates in Melbourne, Australia in April 2003.
NZ events he's played include BLISS (main zone), Alpine Unity 2002 (main zone), The Gathering 98/99/2000 (main zone, 13,000 people), Sonic Edge (Singapore), Wonderland 2001/02/03/04 (main zone), Twisted (Phoenix), Leviathan III (Christchurch, main zone), Visionz 00-01 and many more.
Helix is a true crowd-pleaser, fully into the music. Often wearing a crazy costume, Helix can be seen dancing and jumping about behind the decks as the mood takes him, and has been known to leap into the audience to dance while DJing.
See one of the legends of the NZ underground rave scene perform live – it’s an unforgettable experience.

Here comes the personal stuff ;)
I dislike having to be marketed; I prefer to let the music speak. However, it goes with the territory.
I love all kinds of music, i love to play, and i'd love to party with you :) I am totally passionate about music, whether it be Opeth, Manu Chao, T Power, Hybrid, The Dammed, Hallucinogen or Felix Da Housecat. NZ Music rocks - check out acts like Chelfyn, Cosm, The Upbeats, Dimmer, Noisecontrol and Module. Trust the DJ. Very few DJs do what i do. Listen to some of my older tracks here; come see me play to hear the fresh stuff! :D
Check out www.bliss.org.nz for the crew that i put on parties with - they're awesome people and the parties are something else!
I don't care how cheesey it sounds: Share the love, be nice people, care for the poor and dance yer freakin' arse off at every opportunity. Hell yeah!
