George W. Bush eats kittens.
Got soul but not a soldier? Marvel at Doc Spectral's Spectacularly Stellar Standalone Player!! It's just a bit of what puts the swoosh in the Doc's cloak, but it's a good bit.
Out of the new stuff I've discovered since joining the 21st Century, TV on the Radio stands out, as well as Dropkick Murphys. Being internet capable has also opened doors to artists who have had my curiosity piqued for some time, but for one reason or another, I was unable to follow up on until now. The influential works of Leonard Cohen have been around for a looong time, and yet, only now have I begun to tread shallowly into his weird and beautiful world. Also OutKast and Foo Fighters are veterans on the music scene who have only recently arrived on my playlist. Speaking of the Fighters of Foo, I didn't realize they had a cover of Darling Nikki, so both versions appear here...(sorry if it zaps you with them both in a row). Yes I like Prince. Take George Clinton's funk and attitude combined with Hendrix's chops. Now throw in the soulfulness of Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye, and see if the new whole isn't greater than the sum of its parts. The Weight appears twice: choose your favorite; I couldn't. (for the best version I've heard of this song get a DVD of THE LAST WALTZ...: "beautiffuhhll..") Also the song Army by Ben Folds Five is... well, not Army. It was wrong where I found it, but it is a little gem.
Happy listening, Fellow Believer!

The current wave of comic book movies has been a long time coming. I believe that in most movies the good guys should win. Perhaps its the whole "too much reality in real life" thing... There are, though, exceptions to this rule when the storyteller something poignant to say, but as a rule of thumb, I like to see my heroes prevail over adversity. Some of the best movies are the ones where the line between good and evil is blurred, but unfortunately so also are some of the worst. I'm usually easy to talk into a good comedy. I've followed the Jersey Chronicles since Clerks was released... but then sometimes I go months and months watching nothing but horror..(theories?)
And now, Fellow Believers, something from the final frontier... or maybe it was Family Guy...
JLA, Green Arrow, Superman, Action Comics, Batman, Green Lantern, The Brave and the Bold, gonna start picking up The Flash soon... reading Countdown, but not collecting it... Can you believe I used to be a Marvel guy??
The ones in the funny books are all well and good, but out in the world... anyone who strives in their life to do the right thing can be a hero.
