About Me

PLACEBO PART COMPANY WITH DRUMMER STEVE HEWITT

Placebo have parted company with drummer of 11 years, Steve Hewitt, due to personal and musical differences.

Brian Molko commented "Being in a band is very much like being in a marriage, and in couples - in this case a triple - people can grow apart over the years. To say that you don't love your partner anymore is inaccurate, considering all that you've been through and achieved together. There simply comes a point when you realize that you want different things from your relationship and that you can no longer live under the same roof, so to speak."

The split is amicable and a sad time for both parties. Steve Hewitt replaced Robert Schultzberg behind the drum kit in 1996 whilst the band were promoting Placebo's eponymous debut album and went on to record the following 4 studio albums 'Without You I'm Nothing', 'Black Market Music', 'Sleeping With Ghosts' and most recently 'Meds'.

Placebo have just returned from the USA where they were part of the high profile 'Projekt Revolution Tour' alongside Linkin Park and My Chemical Romance. The band are now taking a well earned break.

Brian Molko and Stefan Olsdal will begin work on Placebo's 6th studio album next Spring and are in no rush to find an immediate replacement for Steve.-www.placeboworld.co.uk-

Placebo Biography
1994: Brian Molko made music together with Steve Hewitt
One day, he met his old classmate Stefan Olsdal in London and invited him to one of his gigs. Stef was so amazed, that he asked Brian, if they needed a bassist.
So the ur-formation from Placebo was given. They recorded their first demos in the „Sound Advice“ in Deptford as the band „Ashtray Heart“.
As a result, Brian wanted to play gigs periodical, but Steve had no time, because he had another band named „Breed“. So he left „Ashtray Heart“.
Now Robert Schultzberg appeared and so he was the new drummer. After a time, they changed their band name to PLACEBO.
Their first official gig as Placebo was in January 1995 in the Rock Garden in London with the Label „Fierce Panda“.
On this label released „Bruise Pristine“.
After that, they changed their record company and went to „Deceptive Records“.
Their first single there was „Come Home“, published in 1996.
In the same year, they went on tour with David Bowie and after that, they released their first self titled Album „Placebo“.
The single „Nancy Boy“ was a big success.
Unfortunately the band had problems with their drummer Robert Schultzberg and so he left the band 1997.
Steve came back to Placebo because he had problems with his band „Breed“.
Their second Album released in October 1998and was titled with „Without You I’m Nothing“. It was a masterpiece of dark melancholism.
They toured one year and after that they made a 5-month-break.
In 2000 they finished their third Album called „Black Market Music“.
3 years ago their fourth Album „Sleeping With Ghosts“ appeared and it was a worldwide success.
They went on tour until 5th November 2004 where they played their last concert in the Wembley Arena until 2006.
In the meantime they published the live DVD from their concert in Paris and 2005 a singles collection from 1995 – 2005 named „Once More With Feeling“.
And now their back with their new Album MEDS, released on 13th March 2006. It’s a masterpiece.
