Established on the birth date (14th June 2005) of the Co CEO & the main artist on the label ‘UK Mix Tape King’ Mr.Drastick and his brother Pharaoh Biggs BA (Hons). Started after seeing/hearing, the all too familiar situations of many a talented artist getting shafted and turned into artist that they do not want to be by greedy record companies, the two brothers decided to go it alone. The road to success started with the birth of the labels first ever release, Mr.Drastick’s ‘The Gladiatorial Passion vol.1’.
Armed with a Ghanaian work ethic, they recorded, mixed and mastered the mix tape without any outside source of income and hit the streets of London and nearly every city imaginable within the UK. Due to this serious business attitude and hustle, that first release is now revered by most critics within the domestic Hip Hop scene as a classic mix tape and is still doing the rounds today, with street sales of over 15,000 copies and still rising.
It also became mix-tape of the week on Dev’s mix-tape review show on BBC 1Xtra, and single of the week for the song ‘They Swear’, on DJ G. Money’s show (BBC 1Xtra), just one week after its release. He was also bestowed with the ‘U.K mix-tape king’ title on Spit TV (was on Sky channel 360) early 2006, three weeks before the video for the single had even been shown on Channel U.
Since then the label has gone from strength to strength in solidifying the brand within the hearts and minds of true Hip Hop heads. By Mr.Drastick releasing two more full length CD projects (Born a Prince Die a King & All Bless), to keep his hungry fans happy before the release of his highly anticipated ‘The Gladiators Anthem vol.2 sequel to the Passion vol.1’.
With the patriotic influenced first released single (Rep Dat), taken off the new project receiving massive underground (Pirate Radio, internet sites & Channel U etc) and reasonable mainstream support from leading Opinion Leaders/Tastemakers such as DJ Semtex, Manny Norte, Westwood, DJ 279, Hip Hop Connection and Deejay Mag to name a few. Mr.Drastick is a star in the making, and with is own label behind him, is proving that artists can carve, mould or shape their own careers with their own hands.
With future plans in the pipeline, including the creation of Pharaoh Biggs’s ‘The 100% Pure mix tape’ and various collaborations lined up for Mr.Drastick with leading recording artists here and abroad. M.D.M Recordings is planning to be recognised within the next 5 years, as the premiere Hip Hop/R&B label and first choice for all true musicians within these genres, hoping to sign a deal with a company that understand its music 100%, from the grassroots up.---------------------------------------------------------
