About Me

Ansgar Noeth is represented by Strychnin Gallery NYC Berlin London. Please contact gallery owner Yasha Young via yasha(at)strychnin.com about works for sale and exhibitions. Thank you.
If you are interested in commercial projects (such as band photography, portraits etc.) please feel free to contact me directly. If you are interested in modelling for me, please read my latest blog entry. Thank you.

Ansgar Noeth is an artist working on the borderline of sculpture and photography. Using a highly durable and complex printing process, his works - which are sometimes life-sized - are printed directly behind glass and then presented standing freely in heavy, solid bases. These bold yet fragile images are completely unique and yet hauntingly familiar as they recall the colorful and majestic appearance of traditional church windows.
Quite fittingly, in one of his first series to be printed on glass, Noeth quotes Christian mythology. “We are predominantly raised with Christian values in the Western hemisphere,” he says, “which lend these images their very own context of meaning, a set of almost inexplicable symbolic references.” Although he often lets his models adopt traditional poses – such as those depicted by German Renaissance painter Lukas Cranach the Elder – they always remain linked to the present. Tattooed and pierced, they are modern-day saints and sinners, white-washed for anonymity and yet solid in their presence, telling their stories in the here and now. Despite this contemporary element, they remain almost timeless in their subtlety. The contrast between the transparent, fragile material of his prints and the threatening and sometimes intimidating depths of their imagery is discovered only by those who watch closely.

Noeth’s works have been exhibited throughout Europe and the United States.

My Interests

I am interested in human emotions- fear, love, lust, envy, greed, wrath and the like- as they are often the great motivators behind the most wonderful yet also the most terrible things. I am interested in finding these emotions within others, even in historical, mythological or biblical figures who are long-gone or never even existed in the first place, yet also within myself. What's important to me is to have something to say about these emotions and motivations, that YOU have something to say about them, be it through music or images, books or song. I am not interested in idle chit-chat about sports or fashion, I don't care about what kind of car you drive or how much money you make. I want to know if you are happy, or unhappy, and why.

I'd like to meet:

Roderich the Corpulent

Please note: while there are many many people out there on MySpace, I am not interested in meeting everyone. This is not to say you're too boring a person or I am too arrogant to care, on the contrary: I am interested in getting in touch, I want to know that there is a connection between us, whether we've actually met in real life or whether you were inspired by my page. I want to know what makes you want to be my "friend"- so if you send me a friend request, send me a message along with it, tell me something about yourself, how you found me, what you do, if there is anything we have in common. Of course you don't have to do this but I would appreciate it a lot. If I feel I have nothing in common with you- if I don't share your aesthetics, sense of humor or if you want to leave stupid GIFs in my comment space on a regular basis, and send me invites to events I will never go to- chances are we wouldn't be friends in real life, so why should we be friends on MS? I am sure you're still nice but you're just not for me- and I am probably not for you. Sorry.
