Born in the island of Mauritius, my musical journey began at the tender age of 5. Being brought up in a musical family will do that to you. I can still remember the good old days when I use to go and watch my dad Guy Pouzet play in his band. The band was called the Flibustier. They used to play in different hotels of Mauritius. One day my dad asked me if I wanted to learn music, I replied that I wanted to play the sax like he did. He suggested that I take piano lessons first. So every Wednesday afternoon after school, my grand mother would teach me the piano, and my grand father who was a conductor, would keep a very close ear on me. However due to unfortunate circumstances, I did not end up following this path. But my passion for music was always there, every step of the way. I have always needed music somehow.Having a good ear for music and such a passion, my djing career started from the age of 15. All my friends back then always asked me to dj at their parties. The great times that I will always remember, is my cousin Pascal Pouzet and I staying up really late at night, recording tunes off the radio. Back then we were recording all our songs on audio tapes. Can you imagine finding songs during a gig with audio tapes? Was a lot of fun though, and of course no pitch control. I remember this one time when Pascal and I had recorded all these new songs and of course we wanted to play them during the party. Pascal and I were so up to date with new music. During the party, one of the new songs we played, everybody left the dance floor. Shit, what do we do now? The crowd did not know the song enough and they were very thirsty. The next song we played, everybody came back and we kept the dance floor pack till 5am and we had started the party at 7.30pm. What a night this was, we had a ball and lots of fun.Venturing to Sydney, I was the resident DJ at The Play Pen, for the year 1988 to 1989. At that time House music was just making its way onto the dance scene. Such as Ride on time by Blackbox, Pump up the jam and so on, and let’s not forget Acid music too. However never got into Acid much, I preferred the house tunes. Not being able to purchase the equipment needed to practice, I took a break from djing for a while. However I have always managed to keep up to date with new songs making their way onto the market. In 2005 the joy and my passion and observing the large following of house music, I could not stay away, and I was so determine to mark my spot into the dj scene. In the mean time my brother Bruno Pouzet got me this amazing software which allowed me to have 2 cd decks with pitch control and all the songs in my record case. That’s it, now I was set. So I started taking on a few private gigs here and there. Before I even knew it I was djing every single weekend, which kept me out of trouble. My unique style of being a digital Dj means that I am very versatile. I can offer a diverse range of music styles from Down Tempo House to Hard House. Now more experienced and matured in both my choice of music and my technical mixing capabilities, I started making a few demos. At first friends were asking me for a copy just so they could dance at their own place or listen in the car. The more positive comments I got, I decided to start getting club and bar gigs. My girlfriend Amanda who was in contact with a new an up market club The Argyle at The Rocks Sydney, gave 2 of my demos to the marketing manager Damion Pell. Damion Pell being a dj himself really like my demos and got me gigs at the Argyle for the opening of the club, along side Dj Alex Taylor, Dj Kate Monroe, Dj Phil Hudson, Dj Chris Burrell just to name a few.Shortly after that I was offered the position of resident dj at the Bavarian Bier Café, where I mostly played down tempo house and a bit of commercial house. While I was djing in both places, a promoter asked me if I would be willing to do a Fund Raising Charity Event at World Bar in King Cross Sydney, of course I said yes. This particular night I did 3 gigs in one night. This was the best time of my life. The Charity Event did pay off. Even though I did the gig for free, since then, I have scored at least 15 gigs from it.My style is a combination of commercial house with uplifting, funky style, Latin house, and amazing bass lines. The Dj’s and producers which have greatly influenced me, in the house music culture are, Carl Cox, Judge Jules, Miguel Migs, Hed Kandi, Mark Dynamix, Stephane Pouzet from Got Soul Productions, Pascal Pouzet from the Martini Club, Alex Taylor, Kate Monroe, Damion Pell, Phil Hudson, Grant Nelson, just to name a few, whom in my opinion are true musical geniuses. The best part of being a DJ is the satisfaction that I get from people smiling, having a great time and dancing to my tunes. There is nothing better than seeing the same people coming back to listen to you week after week. For future booking and enquiries contact me on [email protected] or check out my up coming gigs on www.myspace.com/djericpouzetcom Take good care and always have fun.
