I WAS IN THE RIGHT PLACE AT THE RIGHT TIME IN THE FALL OF 2004. I CROSSED PATHS WITH DIRECTOR HASSAN "HOOD" HAZE. HE HAPPENED TO BE FILMING SOME BANDS AT A CLUB IN CULVER CITY THAT I WAS PERFORMING AT. I WENT UP ON STAGE WITH JUST MYSELF AND PLAYED THE KEYBOARD. "HOOD" PROPOSED AN IDEA FOR A DOCUMENTARY. A DOCUMENTARY BASED ON MY JOURNEY AS A SINGER/SONGWRITER. I WAS RELUCTANT AT FIRST. I COULDN'T SEE THE BIGGER PICTURE. BUT NOW IT'S 2 YEARS LATER, 60 HOURS OF FOOTAGE LATER, AND WE HAVE A feature length FILM THAT WILL EXPRESS WHAT IT'S LIKE TO TRY AND MAKE IT IN HOLLYWOOD. IT WILL EXPOSE HOLLYWOOD AT IT'S BEST AND WORST, IT WILL BE PACKED WITH CELEBRITY APPEARANCES AND ADVICE FROM THOSE WHO HAVE AND HAVEN'T MADE IT.....and my debut album will be interlaced throughout it.....I GIVE "HOOD" BIG THANKS & GRATITUDE FOR MAKING MY LIFE INTO A MOVIE....CHECK OUT THIS TRAILER AND LEAVE US A COMMENT.... I grew up in New york, but I now call Los Angeles my home. I miss the people in N.Y. but L.A. is a great city and the warm weather inspires me.
Im a classically trained pianist and have been playing the piano since the age of five. Never in a million years would I have thought that I would be a singer. But life is mysterious and beautiful and after I wrote my first song, there was no turning back. I like listening to songs with deep lyrics and strong melodies because they completely enrapture me. When I first listened to songs like, Carole Kings, Youve Got A Friend, Tracy Chapmans, Fast Car, The Beatles, Let It Be, they struck a chord in my heart so deeply that I started to write poetry. Then one day, I sat down at the piano and thought, hmmmm... I can play the keys, I love to sing, and I love poetry, so I just wrote a song purely for fun. After I wrote my first song, time stood still for a while. I experienced an epiphany that woke me up. I realized I needed to devote my life to music and songwriting.
Ive been very blessed to be awarded as Female Singer/Songwriter of the Year at the L.A. Music Awards 2004 and my song Shadow was awarded as Adult Contemporary Single of the Year 2005. Ive composed music for T.V. and film. My latest project was composing music for Tony Kaye, director of American History X.
But what I love most is writing songs and performing them live. To me, theres nothing better than creating something solely from your heart and sharing that with others. My next endeavor is to complete my debut album in 2006, launch my own record label in 2006 and work with people who are fearless, kind and strong... and also on my list of endeavors, is sharing my story - 'cause it's all about the journey there - I'm working on a music documentary with a very talented director that is set to be released in theaters in 2007. Life is beautiful no matter what, and that's what I remind myself of everyday. There's no obstacles, only opportunities. Keep in touch myspacers :)
