The Resistors

More songs about twisted bitterness and parties

About Me

The Resistors emerged from the Brisbane mod/Detroit scene that spawned bands like the Screaming Tribesmen, Scrap Metal and The End, in 1980. Influenced by the Jam, the Who, the Buzzcocks, the Stooges, the MC5 and, more locally, Radio Birdman, the Resistors gigged around Brisbane and south east Queensland until they disbanded in late 1982. Rarely a headliner, but always entertaining in a shambolic, energetic way, the Resistors built a solid following. They released only a single recorded offering during their brief but incandescent existence, a cassette recorded with fellow Brisband The Version. A further collection of songs was recorded after the bands breakup.Roger McDonald went on to play in seminal Brisbane bands such as President's Eleven and the Spiny Norman Conspiracy, and is currently playing in The Racketeers.Chris Rees moved to Sydney like every second Brisbanite, working and playing in pick-up bands before moving to Japan and forming the Headhunters in Tokyo with Californian John Seely.James Murray was last heard of in Darwin. This site will provide an opportunity to hear some of the songs that oozed from a bunch of three adolescent psyches raised in Joh's Queensland, and will feature blogs telling the stories of a struggling band in early eighties Brisbane - often more heartache than hope but always with the grim optimism and uncertainty of the times. The Resistors edited their profile with Thomas' Myspace Editor V4.4

Sounds Like: Three post-adolescent Brisbanites venting their frustrations at being young, confused, self-righteous and under the Bjelke thumb by flailing away at instruments and trying to use the lessons learned from musical heroes, of which they were blessed with many. Some people reckoned they sounded like The Vapors and, while the band disagreed, it isn't the worst comparison to hope for.

The Resistors' First Show

I'd promised Chris and James that I'd ring up Piranha Brothers booking agency and see about getting some gigs. Chris and I agreed that it would be foolish getting James to ring them up. He was so ecce...
