Anything outdoors....I love sports, mostly playing them. The only ones I like watching are my 10 year old nephew's baseball games. He hits bombs and has a wonderful appreciation and love for the game. He'll probably play for the Dodgers some day.I'll attend those games, and hopefully for free. I also enjoy snowboarding, fishing. hiking, swimming, boogie boarding, camping, and pretty much anything that has to deal with nature.
WE ARE CRIMINALIZING PEOPLE WHO HAVE COME TO THIS COUNTRY IN SEARCH OF THE "AMERICAN DREAM". THEY HAVE AND CONTINUE TO POUR THEIR SWEAT AND TEARS INTO THIS NATION. WE IN TURN OFFER OUR THANKS THROUGH DEPORTATION??????
Elvira Arellano announced her one year anniversary on Wednesday, August 15th. Exactly a year ago this month she sought sanctuary and refuge in a church in Chicago, Illinois. Elvira has fought against deportation and separation from her 8 year old son who happens to be a U.S. citizen. Her efforts have made her a leader in the fight for just and humane immigration reform. She has inspired and uplifted a community of undocumented workers who live in constant fear of deportation.
Elvira Arellano found a voice through Myspace. She posted bulletins and blogs that kept thousands of people(myspace friends) informed of the issues that surround comprehensive immigration reform. Her efforts have encouraged action and created awareness in regards to this situation.
This weekend, she made a brave decision. She decided to come to Los Angeles, California to share her story with the thousands of Angelinos who live in the shadows of our society. Sadly, after visiting other local churches, she was arrested near the historic Placita Olvera church.
I learn of this horrible incident by phone. I called my sister to make plans to meet her and my niece at Chuck E. Cheese. My sister asked me if I had heard the news. A simultaneous broadcast of what she was about to tell me was being televised on the 5 o'clock NBC news. As she asked if a could take care of her 3 year old daughter in order to join the efforts already in progress to plead for Elvira's release, I was overcome with sadness.
Did we let Elvira Arellano down? She must have felt some sort of security and safety to agree to come to Los Angeles. We must not let her efforts be muffled by the actions of our government. Los Angeles, as well as, California cannot and should not stand idle on this issue. Villaraigosa has joined hands with our movement in the past, now we must test his commitment. And yes, the presidential candidates must be questioned on this matter. Where do they stand?
It is now 12:03 a.m. in Pasadena, California. My sister arrived at her home about an hour ago. I am currently sitting here on her computer as she peacefully tucks her little one in for the night. My niece could only understand that her mother was working late. Saul, Elvira's son, unlike my niece, however, is fully aware of his mother's plight and knows that tonight he will go to sleep without his mother at his side. Worst yet, he does not even know when he will be able to see her again.
We must join together to protest this inhumane action. Elvira Arellano and Saul are counting on us. Lets show her that in UNITY we will find STRENGTH and PERSEVERANCE.
I love music! I pretty much like anything that has a good beat and makes me shake my groove thang. Dance, r&b, hip hop, some country, and the old corridos my dad use to blast at 6:00 a.m. on a Saturday morning are among my favorites.
I have a bad sleeping disorder when it comes to movies.. Lights go out and so do I. However, I prefer funny love stories... the kind that make you think that someone really special might just come knocking on your front door.
Not much of a tv fanatic.... I am part of that unique breed that lacks the luxury of cable.. Although, there's something about Law and Order that keeps me tuned in...I like watching it alone however because most of my friends figure out the plot before the end of the show. Yes, and they love spoiling it for me.
I don't have particular favorites.. I am kind of a history geek... My friends say I am filled with "UI" useless information... I love reading about our past.. I know it's a little boring, but I always welcome any suggestions within the fictional genres. I must admit however, I don't get very far. It's a habit I am trying to break.
Well, they say that you should be your own hero, but everyone needs someone to look up to. So these are mine. First, my family. They could either destroy the world or save it.... now that's some powerful shit...... And where would we be without the heroics of El Chapulin Colorado... "No Contaban Con Mi Astucia". I must admit, I am still looking for the Cesar Chavez of our era.... our people need someone to guide us through these trying times.
