About Me

A native of Chattam, Ontario, Bhaktimarga Swami studied at Cambrian College in Sudbury to pursue a life of fine arts. In 1973 he came in contact with the Hare Krishna movement, a devotional monotheistic religion within Hinduism. Soon after he began to study the 5000 year old scriptures of India, the Vedas, and to practice yoga. He became a vegetarian, and in 1984 took vows to become a celibate monk in the order. For a long running six years he produced and appeared on "On the Way to Krishna," seen nationwide on Vision TV.Not forsaking his artistic side, Swami expresses himself by producing theatrical presentations in narrative/mime format capturing Vedic themes. By harnessing the youthful energy around him from the Toronto ashrama where he resides, and drawing young adults from communities wherever he travels, within a reasonably brief time major productions find themselves onto stage venues from temples to community centres. "Theatre for the spirit," says Swami, "has something for everyone, whether it pulls at your heart-strings or offers a morality message."In addition to staging temple theatre, Bhaktimarga Swami takes to culinary skills, loves the occasional pilgrimage to India and is an avid walker. In 1996 he undertook an ambitious walk across the Canada from Victoria to St. John's, a distance of 8500 kilometres! Its purpose? To promote a spiritual healing for the nation.
