About Me

Greetings from Brooklyn, NY. Adam Sohmer here.Is that enough? If not, add that I'm a husband, father and all-around righto-leftist American who owns and operates the appropriately named public relations agency, Sohmer Associates, LLC. (www.sohmerassoc.com)This little chunk of Murdoch Heaven will be used for personal updates including family photos, assorted interests, and the best spots for legally acquiring music on the 'net.Update, 072007: outside of the photos, I have yet to start any of the threatened updates. Stay tuned for further procrastinations.

My Interests

Music, J and D, other relations, music, friends, culinary arts, writing, audio, gadgets, music, hiking, biking, etc. The basics.

I'd like to meet:

Someone with a good recipe for Mandarin style pan fried dumplings.

Music:

Zappa, Sly Stone, Beatles, Muddy Waters, The Kinks, Elvis Costello, Calvin Boze, Neil Young, all things P-Funk related, Thelonious Monk, almost anything released on the Two-Tone and Trojan labels, Dick Dale, Joey Miserable & The Worms, Johnny Burnette, Buddy Guy, The Band, X, Jools Holland, Antibalas, Wanda Jackson, Doris Troy, Joan Osborne, Ramones, Igor Stravinsky, Ben Webster, Miriam Makeba, Sonny Rollins, Buddy Rich, Johnny Winter, The Fratellis, Shemeika Copeland, The Pharcyde, Was (Not Was), Fountains of Wayne, Ry Cooder, Toots and the Maytals, Jerry Lee Lewis, The Clash, Fela Kuti, Beastie Boys, The Roots, Aretha Franklin, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, The Who, etc. Too many to mention. Avid e-music subscriber. The world would be a better place if Dan Lynch's returned to the East Village.

Movies:

"Producers" The original '67 version is one of the funniest films ever produced. Also can't imagine life if I hadn't seen Brazil, Duck Soup, Dr. Strangelove, Pulp Fiction, Being There, Do the Right Thing, The Gold Rush, Goodfellas, and a million or so others that I can't think of before my 5th cup of coffee.

Television:

Yes I own one. More than one, though there is barely enough worthwhile programming for one. Still a Simpsons fan after all these years...

Books:

Clockwork Orange, Portnoy's Complaint, Sabbath's Theater, Being There, Little Green Men, Chinaman's Chance, Oryx and Crake, Common Sense, Federalist Papers, almost anything by Margaret Atwood, ditto Terry Southern, triple-ditto Hunter S. Thompson and Kurt Vonnegut.

Heroes:

Thomas Paine, Cesar Chavez, Nelson Mandela, Thelonious Monk (him again), FDNY, Larry Flynt (really), Frank Zappa, my grandmother, and my friend Billy Grant, who beat death with a sharp pointy stick.
