From funk to country, classical to reggae, my parents listened to it all when i was growing up. then i was made to take piano lessons at the age of eight, and my view of the world and all its happenings expanded. my piano training started in classical, which i found beautiful but boring, so a few years later my mom put me in jazz piano. through all of this, i was being educated by and inducted into the culture of hip-hop... what a ride. so i’m a singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, but i’m also from the ’hood with roots in hip-hop. All this means is i play instruments and write piano ballades as fluently as i make beats... and i can sing over both.
although, what i’ve mostly been told by music industry executives is that i’m not hip-hop enough for hip-hop, i’m not R&B enough for R&B, i’m not pop enough for pop, and funk (cause everybody know i can funk) isn’t a bankable category. what’s a nigga to do... so now i’m heavy into doin’ beats - and for tha non believers out there who thought superday couldn’t do hip-hop, check ya’ mix tapes comin outta texas... more info on that soon. plus, now i do solo acoustic gigs, just me w/my wurlitzer electric piano, in an effort hone my craft in its purest form: 1piano 1voice.
so bottom line, i say to hell with what a handful of people think about me, deciding for the rest of the world that i’m not "enough" of any one thing for my music to be enjoyable, and profitable. truth is i wrote this music for you and it would kill me if you didn’t hear it. so give a listen, even if you don’t think you’ll be into it, give a listen... maybe you’ll hate it enough to tell a friend who’ll love it. cause i’m gonna keep on writing and playing and singing and producing music until the day i die and there’s nothing you can do about it. if u ask me, i say it’s HIP-HOP MUSIC. It’s just everyday music from a ’hood perspective. I hope you like it.
